Position Overview


The Energy Storage Project Engineer plays a critical role in the successful delivery of utility-scale battery energy storage projects. This position serves as the primary technical liaison between internal teams, customers, vendors, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle. Responsibilities include reviewing contracts and technical requirements, supporting product design and documentation, coordinating network and system designs, and managing technical deliverables. The Project Engineer actively participates in design reviews, testing and commissioning support, issue resolution, and ensures alignment with customer expectations and safety and compliance standards. This role demands strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and the ability to manage multiple technical tasks in a fast-paced project environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Project Technical Coordination and Communication
    Serve as the primary technical point of contact for internal teams, vendors, and customers. Respond to RFIs, identify technical gaps, support meetings, and coordinate design changes and clarifications.
  • Contract and Technical Requirements Review
    Support pre and post-award contract reviews to identify technical requirements, deliverables, and compliance risks. Ensure all requirements are tracked and planned for timely submittals.
  • Product and Design Expertise
    Review product documents, drawings, and reports to become a technical expert and efficiently identify and resolve design, installation, and operational issues.
  • Vendor and Material Management
    Develop project-specific Bills of Materials (BOMs) and coordinate technical requirements and approvals with vendors.
  • Testing and Commissioning Support
    Create commissioning and test plans based on contract requirements, support Factory and Field Acceptance Testing (FAT/FIT), and assist with troubleshooting during commissioning.
  • Project Documentation and Reporting
    Track technical issues, prepare weekly technical reports, prepare technical submittals, and create acceptance test reports for customer approval. Escalate complex technical issues to the Project Engineering Leader, assisting in resolution by providing thorough documentation and analysis.
  • Safety and Compliance
    Be familiar with industry standards and best practices. Identify product or project non-compliance and safety issues based on project location and design.
  • Network Design and Coordination
    Coordinate project network design between internal (Software and Network teams) and external stakeholders. Create network design documentation
  • Process and Continuous Improvement
    Contribute to developing and updating process by participating in lessons learned reviews, identifying process gaps and suggesting improvements to project engineering workflows.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in energy storage, power systems, or industrial electrical project engineering.
  • Knowledge of energy storage systems, including batteries and inverters.
  • Experience with project engineering processes, including technical document control, vendor coordination, and submittal preparation.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, SCADA systems, and network infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, UL, NFPA).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as needed for site assessments, commissioning support, and customer meetings.
