Description

Vanguard Renewables, based in Weston, Massachusetts, is a national leader in environmental services and the development of food and dairy waste-to-renewable energy projects. The Company builds, owns, and operates on-farm anaerobic digestion facilities and is continuing to scale through an extensive national expansion of its Farm Powered platform. It is committed to advancing decarbonization by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from farms and food waste, generating renewable energy, and supporting regenerative agriculture on partner farms. The Senior Engineer (Project) will work cross functionally with the Development, Construction, Procurement, and Commissioning teams ensuring quality and assurance on all engineering deliverables of projects in design, construction, and commissioning phases.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively manage and provide technical direction to third-party engineers and designers
  • Coordinate deliverables and review of design drawings and technical packages for issue to General Contractor/Design Builder. 
  • Review technical submittals from vendors and coordinate review and sign offs from internal stakeholders
  • Analyze requests for change from the system or technology providers, provide feedback, and communicate to the entire team.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with project team to provide an update on all technology and system packages
  • Provide technical leadership across assigned projects and act as a subject matter resource for junior engineers
  • Standardize Vanguard technical solutions and create templates for use by engineering team
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests, visit vendor and provider sites to review and report work in progress
  • Work closely with Engineer of Record (3rd party) and their subcontractors to ensure specifications, standards, drawings, and recommendations are communicated effectively to contractors. 
  • Coordinate with the Process and Commissioning Engineers to ensure that the plant control integration meets expectations
  • Coordinate with Process Engineers after bid leveling to make a recommendation for procurement
  • Actively participate in PHA and HAZOP for the projects during design and implement updates as needed
  • Provide accurate and prompt responses to RFIs and submittal reviews. 
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying risks, lessons learned, and optimization opportunities across projects.

Requirements

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, civil, chemical, environmental, Geotech) 
  • 7-12 years of related engineering experience with a combination of project engineering, engineering design, engineering oversight, construction management/superintendent, and/or project management. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Advanced analytical skills to address problems, identify root causes, and generate potential solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Possess excellent communication and negotiation skills. Particularly working with people remote to you either in the field or a remote office.
  • Team first attitude. We are a small team trying to do amazing things. A willingness to jump into any challenge is a key attribute and previous experience in doing so is a plus.
  • Proven experience and success in analyzing production equipment, processes and materials, and solving issues.
  • Ability to successfully prioritize, and manage large, complex projects, deadlines, and tasks with little supervision in both team and independent environments.
  • Ability to report to the Weston, MA office in a hybrid work environment.
  • Must be able to travel up to 20%

Preferred:

  • Energy industry background a plus
  • PE, PMP, or equivalent professional certification strongly preferred
  • Experience with water, wastewater, energy, anaerobic digestion, or renewable natural gas (RNG) project development a plus.
