Job description

Project Controls Specialist
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Controls Specialist to join our team. The project controls team is accountable for helping the business track and lead positive performance outcomes with project Cost, Schedule, amp; Quality. This is accomplished through collecting, maintaining, and tracking various software systems and associated data being generated in performance of company activity and producing dashboards that help leadership manage the business. This Project Controls Specialist position will primarily support the workflow system and cost/data accuracy for projects moving through the system in coordination with our operations, sales, and accounting teams. This position reports to the Director of Project Controls, works alongside our Project Controls Engineer, and is expected to grow with the department as we expand our capabilities. As the controls function matures, this role will extend into quality data collection and reporting; tracking inspection results and work-in-place schedule tracking to give leadership a complete view of project performance.

This is an office-based role working across Oracle Primavera Unifier, Primavera P6, SalesForce, and our accounting platforms (Sage and RFMS). Typical office hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, with occasional flexibility as project needs demand.
About Us:
CP Build was founded in 1980 and is a privately held and fast-growing interior finishes contractor. We are a group of highly talented tight-knit construction professionals mixed with strategic and passionate individuals focused on executing projects and supplying the best-curated products from around the world. We are growing and looking for a talented and motivated individual to join our team.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable in a high-growth, hard-working environment and will roll up their sleeves to do whatever is necessary to push the company forward while contributing to the strategic direction of the organization. You should have experience balancing the need for process with promoting autonomy and excessive communication.

We offer competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits package as well as a great place to work. We’re an experienced team that enjoys working collaboratively and welcomes the knowledge, experience, and contribution you bring.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own cost management workflows in Oracle Primavera Unifier, including purchase orders, change orders, and budget reviews.
  • Audit and process change order workflows in Unifier, validating cost code accuracy, confirming pricing aligns with contract documentation, and ensuring downstream budget and cost sheet updates are completed correctly.
  • Perform contract and budget reconciliations across multiple accounting systems, identifying variances and coordinating with Project Managers to resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist accounting with improvements in job cost accounting controls to ensure costs are landing on correct projects
  • Support scheduling activities when needed, including P6 schedule updates and field tracker maintenance, ensuring schedule continuity across active projects.
  • Develop quality and performance reporting by analyzing inspection, cost, and schedule data to give leadership a clear view of project status.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of costs, commitments, budgets, and forecasts across all active projects.
  • Collaborate with the accounting team on cost reconciliation and support efforts to consolidate accounting systems.
  • Deliver cost and schedule reporting to the Director of Project Controls and project teams.
  • Help document and continuous improvement of project controls processes across the team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or a related field is preferred but not required. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 3–5 years of experience in cost engineering, project controls, construction accounting, or construction finance, preferably within a fast-paced, multi-project construction or project-based environment. Mid-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, budgets, and change order processes. Accounting system experience (Sage, RFMS, or similar) is a meaningful plus.
  • Proficiency in construction management and accounting software (e.g., Unifier, SalesForce, Procore, RFMS, Sage, or similar).
  • Comfortable working across multiple software platforms with a data-driven approach to problem solving. Advanced Excel skills and ability to analyze and interpret project financial data.
  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence to track down information from PMs, field teams, and other departments.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a high volume of tasks across multiple active projects simultaneously.
  • Naturally curious about data and what it means for project outcomes. Proactive in flagging issues before they become problems. Familiarity with construction quality processes, inspection tracking, or field data collection is a plus.
