Building Science Project Associate, Toronto, ON

The Job

Our office in Toronto, Ontario is looking for a Building Science Project Associate to assist with design and condition assessment of buildings and providing technical expertise to our building science projects in areas such as residential, commercial, institutional, municipal, federal, and healthcare.,

Here are the details of your duties in this role:

  • Conduct field investigations, which includes monitoring progress according to specifications, and conformity to building codes and standards, and preparing reports
  • Conduct building condition assessment, reserve fund studies, and performance audits for various clients.
  • Prepare reports, analysis and design, plans, details and specifications for additions/modifications/renovations to residential, commercial and industrial buildings
  • Conduct condition survey assessments through the testing and evaluation of building envelope systems
  • Prepare construction Working Drawings, Specifications and Terms of Reference
  • Prioritize and deliver multiple projects, from beginning to end, with supervision
  • Liaise with clients, design team consultants and contractors to ensure all project work is compliant with the design documents, while ensuring the projects will be delivered on time and on budget
  • Uses initiative and judgment to resolve problems, interpret engineering specifications, investigate design and field engineering difficulties
  • Some knowledge of related disciplines/fields of engineering is preferred
  • Work with Senior Engineers; taking direction as/when required

Your Background

To succeed in this role, you need to meet the following basic requirements:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in applied science, Architecture, or Engineering from an accredited University
  • Minimum 2 years prior experience in building science/building envelope restoration in a consulting environment
  • Prior experience with Building Condition Assessment, Reserve Fund Studies, and Performance Audits
  • Working knowledge of building codes and standards
  • Experience with concrete and masonry restoration, cladding and glazing upgrades, etc.
  • Project management skills with the ability to work with a design team and work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; including technical writing
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic team-oriented environment
  • Computer literate and proficient in the use of relevant computer applications, including developed skills in Word and Excel.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle with a valid Ontario Driverโ€™s License for travel to client sites
  • Ability to work overtime when required
  • Willingness to work on site and deal with Contractors
  • May be required to work at heights or in confined spaces.

Location: North-York/Toronto, ON (Hybrid)

Compensation: $65,000 to $80,000 CAD depending on experience
