Job description

Our client in Montgomery, AL is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join their team. This role will be responsible for managing project billing, tracking costs and revenue, and ensuring accurate financial reporting across multiple projects. The ideal candidate will have strong project accounting experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project and finance teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain client billing schedules based on project contracts and milestones.
  • Monitor project revenue and costs using percentage-of-completion accounting.
  • Prepare and submit accurate, timely client invoices in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Review and record consultant, engineering, and vendor proposals and invoices to the appropriate projects.
  • Track project costs and maintain consultant accruals in accordance with ASC 606 revenue recognition standards.
  • Coordinate payments to consultants and engineers following receipt of client funds and established pay-when-paid procedures.
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure accurate and complete project financial data.
  • Assist with maintaining organized and accurate project accounting records and reporting.


Qualifications

  • 3–10 years of experience in project accounting, preferably within the architecture, engineering, or construction industries.
  • Strong understanding of job cost accounting and project billing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint is highly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred but not required; relevant industry experience is highly valued.
