Job description

J.R. Heald Builders

Now Hiring: Field Project Manager

Dover, NH /Barrington, NH offices  |   Full-Time   |   Field-Based

Building wins for everyone. That's our mission at J.R. Heald Builders — creating lasting value for our clients, our team, and our community. We listen first and build better, because our client's ‘why’ matters. If you're an experienced site supervisor or lead carpenter who's ready to take on real project-management responsibility without leaving the jobsite behind OR you've already taken on some Project Management responsibilities, but miss being in the field, we want to talk to you.

About the Role

We're hiring a Field Project Manager — a role built for someone who leads from the jobsites, not from behind a desk. You'll spend most of your time on active projects, managing subcontractors and daily production, while also collaborating with members of the Production team on the budget, schedule, client communication, and documentation to make our projects successful. You'll work in close partnership with our Senior Project Manager, who provides broader support, guidance and oversight.

This is the right role for someone who already thinks and operates like a site supervisor and a project manager combined — someone who thinks ahead and broadly as well as someone who trades respect, clients trust, and teammates want to work alongside.

You are a leader - by example, by mentorship and by living our Core Values.

What You'll Do:
  • Run the day-to-day field operation on assigned projects — trade coordination, scheduling, and quality control
  • Direct subcontractors and hold them accountable to schedule and quality standards
  • Keep a rolling look-ahead on trades, materials, and inspections so nothing catches the job by surprise
  • Own budget and change-order awareness on your projects, protecting schedule, quality, and margin
  • Be the primary point of contact for clients on your jobs, with clear and proactive communication
  • Keep documentation (daily logs, photos, JobTread) current so the office always knows where the job stands.
  • Coach and lead field team members — carpenters, apprentices, and site supervisors — on your projects
  • Assist with onsite work as needed to mentor our field team and/or keep projects moving forward
  • Partner with the Senior Project Manager on cross-project needs and production improvements
What We're Looking For:

We can teach construction skills. What we can't teach is attitude, mindset, and motivation — so we're looking for someone who shows up with:

  • 5+ years of hands-on field experience as a lead carpenter/site supervisor and 1+ year(s) of project manager experience (custom residential/remodeling preferred).
  • A track record of working with and driving positive results with subs and crews independently, with strong judgment on the jobsite.
  • Comfort with budgets, change orders, and job-cost awareness with guidance as needed.
  • Familiarity with project software such as JobTread or Smartsheets is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license, clean driving record, reliable transportation, and the tool set of a lead field professional.
  • Clear, confident and professional communication — with clients, trades, and teammates alike.
  • A motivational, growth-oriented mindset and leadership approach
  • The ability to shift priorities and daily tasks with a steady demeanor in order to manage all ongoing projects
  • A genuine fit with how we operate: Integrity, Team, Communication, Continuous Improvement, and Accountability aren't just words on our wall — they're how we expect everyone here to work.
Compensation & Benefits:

Compensation: $80,000-95,000, based on experience

  • Health insurance
  • A variety of other insurances including Dental and Vision
  • Paid time off
  • Company vehicle
  • Tools and technology provided for the role
  • Growth path toward seasoned Project Manager/Sr. Project Manager/Production Manager
