Job description

Location: Duluth & Suwanee, GA (Onsite, Full-Time)

Are you an experienced archivist who not only sees the story in every document, photo, and file, but also understands how to unlock the strategic value of historical assets?

We are seeking a Senior Archivist to join our team and become a vital player in activating, preserving, and elevating collections for innovative applications. In this role, you will work closely with clients to help them leverage their archives not only to safeguard their heritage, but also to bring it to life for modern business, cultural, and sports-driven use cases.

You will serve as both a hands-on archival expert and a strategic advisor, guiding complex projects from assessment through activation while mentoring others and helping shape best practices across the organization.

Who We Are

At Heritage Werks, we believe every story deserves to be preserved and shared. We partner with world-class brands, sports franchises, fashion icons, and mission-driven organizations to safeguard their most meaningful materials and bring them to life in ways that inspire connection.

We preserve history. We protect generational legacies. And we do it with care, purpose, and a forward-thinking approachโ€”honoring the past while making it relevant for today and meaningful for the future.

What Youโ€™ll Do

As a Senior Archivist, you will lead and execute complex archival initiatives while serving as a trusted partner to clients and internal teams. You will drive archival projects from initial assessment through organization, cataloging, preservation, and activation, ensuring both archival integrity and strategic value.

Your responsibilities will include leading collection assessments and content surveys, organizing and processing archival materials both physically and intellectually, and performing advanced descriptive cataloging. You will write and review finding aids, draft detailed inventories, and curate assets prioritized for digitization. You will recommend and apply preservation best practices and draft gap analysis.

A key component of this role is client collaboration. You will work closely with businesses, cultural institutions, and sports teams to provide tailored archival recommendations aligned with their strategic objectives. This includes helping clients repurpose and activate archival materials for marketing, brand engagement, storytelling, and other contemporary applications. You will translate historical content into usable, meaningful assets that support todayโ€™s business and audience needs.

In addition, you will mentor archivists and project staff, support workflow planning and project timelines, and contribute to a team-centric environment that values efficiency, attention to detail, and meeting tight deadlines. You will balance independent ownership with cross-functional collaboration across archival, digitization, and client teams.

What You Bring

You are a strategic and detail-oriented archival professional who is comfortable operating at both the tactical and advisory levels. You take initiative, manage complexity with confidence, and enjoy helping clients and colleagues see new possibilities in historical collections.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive archival processing and project experience
  • MLIS with Archives and/or Cataloging specialization
  • Certified Archivist (CA) strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex archival projects and client engagements
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Self-starter mindset; performance-driven and deadline-oriented
  • Comfortable working autonomously while collaborating effectively across teams
  • Proficiency with DAM platforms, databases, and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to envision innovative archival applications for clients
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and move materials as required
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for project needs
  • Willingness to work at any Heritage Werks location based on business requirements

Core Competencies

  • Advanced archival judgment and decision-making
  • Client orientation and consultative communication
  • Accountability and ownership
  • Focus on quality and precision
  • Team leadership and mentorship
  • Alignment with company values and project goals
