The NC State College of Veterinary Medicine is where compassion meets science. Each year, nearly 35,000 patients are treated in the Veterinary Hospital (VH) at NC State University. Essential Job Duties
The position is for an individual that is either a NC Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or is eligible for the NC RVT exam.
The position interacts with internal specialty services and their respective staff, clinicians and students to provide coordination and veterinary care for feline patients.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Support the I-131 (hyperthyroidism treatment) program
  • Provide excellent patient care by applying full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, specialized equipment usage, and specialized drug administration for feline patients.
  • Demonstrate and encourage the use of feline-friendly low-stress handling techniques.
  • Work directly with clients, rDVM, and hospital personnel to facilitate communication and anticipate, integrate and coordinate services that optimize both internal and external satisfaction and overall patient care.
  • Participate in client check in, patient admitting, updates, scheduling, and questions.
  • Perform various technical procedures including; anesthesia support and monitoring, Intravenous catheter placement, venipuncture, IV injections, drug administration (IV, Oral, Subcutaneous), inpatient hospitalization care, and various routine diagnostic testing.
  • Participate in supervising, coaching, teaching, orienting and evaluating in the principals of feline friendly practices for veterinary students and house officers.
  • Support in-house training of staff to comply with feline friendly practices
  • Provide support for feline-related clinical studies conducted at the College of Veterinary Medicine by adhering to research protocols, obtaining client consent, collecting and processing patient samples, and collecting clinical trial data.
  • Record a variety of data relating to patient care, diagnostic testing and treatments, and client communications.
  • Provide quick and accurate information regarding each patient, acting as the liaison between client and veterinarian.
  • Enter data into electronic medical records in a proficient manner.
The position also provides programmatic assistance for the Feline Health Center:
  • Organize, coordinate, and develop initiatives to meet program needs and enhance the success of the Feline Health Center and constituents
  • Emphasize cooperation with administration to ensure appropriate and effective flow of patients and program initiatives
  • Assist with reviewing, updating, and preparing communications, marketing, and program databases. Ensure accuracy of data and compliance with program standards.
  • Evaluate, research and assist with procurement of feline clinical supplies and equipment
  • Assist with symposium, community outreach and educational events
  • Pursue ongoing continuing education to support career growth and maintenance of licensure
  • Partner with North Carolina Veterinary Medical Foundation for philanthropic development, including help with stewardship and cultivation of existing and potential donors to the Feline Health Center.
Other Responsibilities
  • Participate in training, teaching, and mentoring of students, interns, and residents.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Work effectively with computers and electronics.
  • Support clinicians and students in patient diagnostics, anesthetic recovery, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, ensure proper use of hospital information systems, and uphold infection control and safety standards.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require additional Training, Certifications, or Licensure.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a feline veterinary setting.
  • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively at all times and maintain professionalism in emotionally charged / challenging situations while providing high quality customer service.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and be an active participant in problem solving and team advancement.
  • Ability to work independently and practice good judgment to ensure high quality care for all patients, requesting assistance when needed.
Required License or Certification
  • NC Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or eligibility for the NC RVT exam required.

NC RVT exam eligibility requirements include graduation from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technician program and a passing score on the National Veterinary Technician Exam.
