This role supports Hilton Grand Vacations-managed towers within the Hilton Hawaiian Village campus, one of the largest and most complex resort environments in Hawaii. The Director of Engineering leads multi-tower operations supporting a 24/7 resort environment, with oversight of a large engineering team and a wide range of building systems.
In this role, the Director of Engineering leads all engineering and maintenance operations across the resort's towers, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality physical environments. This includes oversight of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and structural systems, management of capital projects, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Director partners closely with resort leadership to drive energy efficiency, budget performance, and team development.

Additional Responsibilities Include:
  • Lead daily engineering operations across resort towers, including inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure all building systems (mechanical, electrical, HVAC) operate safely and efficiently.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness and safety protocols.
  • Manage departmental budgets, purchasing, and inventory control.
  • Supervise maintenance projects in guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas.
  • Maintain compliance with QA standards, OSHA regulations, and internal policies.
  • Partner with HR on recruitment, performance management, and labor relations.
  • Coordinate onboarding and development plans for engineering team members.
  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to meet operational and financial goals.
  • Provide reporting and forecast support to resort leadership.

To fulfill this role efficiently, you must possess the following minimum qualifications and experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years as Director of Engineering in a hotel or resort with 200+ rooms
  • 4+ years of management experience, preferably leading engineering or maintenance teams
  • 5+ years of related engineering experience, preferably in hospitality or facilities management
  • Pre-opening experience or involvement in large-scale renovations
  • Experience with sophisticated mechanical systems, building equipment commissioning
  • Experience working in Hawaii in a similar role
  • PM Systems experience (Synergy, HOTSOS as examples)
  • Strong understanding of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural maintenance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, emergency preparedness, and safety protocols.
  • Experience managing preventive maintenance programs and small-scale renovation projects.
  • Ability to manage departmental budgets, control costs, and forecast operational needs.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Familiarity with maintenance management systems (e.g., CMMS), building automation systems, and energy management tools.

It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • LEED, PMP, or trade-specific licenses
  • Experience leading large-scale capital improvement projects.
  • Understanding and proven success with labor relations.
  • Knowledge of energy conservation strategies and green building practices.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and contribute to long-term reserve planning.
