Position Summary

The Membership & Marketing Director provides leadership for YMCA membership growth, member engagement, marketing, communications, and the overall member experience. This position directly supervises Welcome Center staff and works closely with YMCA leadership, staff, businesses, and community partners to promote the YMCA and increase community impact.

Essential Responsibilities

Membership & Member Experience

  • Develop and implement strategies for membership growth, retention, and engagement.
  • Monitor membership trends, revenue, utilization of services, and retention.
  • Oversee membership promotions, campaigns, and new member initiatives.
  • Ensure prospective members receive timely and accurate information about YMCA memberships and services.
  • Address member concerns and identify opportunities to improve service.

Welcome Center Leadership

  • Directly supervise, train, schedule, coach, and evaluate the staff of the Welcome Center.
  • Oversee daily Welcome Center operations, including check-in, memberships, payments, tours, registrations, and customer service.
  • Ensure staff are knowledgeable about YMCA programs, membership options, policies, facility procedures, and community resources.
  • Address member concerns and complaints professionally and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain high standards for professionalism, hospitality, and accountability.

Marketing & Communications

  • Lead YMCA marketing and communications efforts.
  • Manage social media platforms and develop engaging content.
  • Create flyers, newsletters, emails, advertisements, and promotional materials.
  • Coordinate organization-wide member communications and announcements.
  • Promote YMCA programs, events, membership opportunities, and community impact.
  • Maintain consistent YMCA branding and messaging.

Corporate & Community Partnerships

  • Develop and maintain corporate membership programs and relationships.
  • Build partnerships with local businesses, schools, agencies, and community organizations.
  • Represent the YMCA at community events, meetings, networking opportunities, and outreach activities.
  • Identify opportunities to increase YMCA membership and community engagement.

Budget & Administration

  • Develop and manage the Membership & Marketing department budget.
  • Monitor membership revenue, expenses, promotions, and marketing expenditures.
  • Maintain accurate membership and communication records.
  • Use membership data and community feedback to guide growth strategies.

Leadership

  • Serve as a member of the YMCA leadership team.
  • Maintain required YMCA leadership training and professional development.
  • Collaborate with program directors and senior leadership on organizational initiatives.
  • Support staff development, teamwork, and YMCA-wide goals.
  • Promote the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Requirements:Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, nonprofit management, recreation, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience in membership, marketing, customer service, communications, sales, or nonprofit operations preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency with social media, email communication, and basic graphic design tools such as Canva.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for YMCA events and community activities.
