Position Summary
The Department of Arts and Human Sciences at Northern New Mexico College invites applications for a Program Coordinator for the Substance Abuse Counselor Associate of Arts (AA) program. This position is responsible for the coordination, administration, and growth of the program, with a focus on student success, internship placement, licensure preparation, and community engagement.
The Program Coordinator works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and community partners to strengthen the program and support the behavioral health workforce pipeline in Northern New Mexico.
This is a full-time, in-person position requiring regular on-campus presence at the Española campus, as well as regional outreach. The coordinator will represent the college at local high schools, community colleges, career fairs, and community events to support recruitment and program visibility. This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon the renewal of grant funding.
Duties & Responsibilities
Program Coordination and Student Support
  • Serve as Program Coordinator for the Substance Abuse Counselor AA program.
  • Advise and mentor students regarding program requirements, academic pathways, and career opportunities in behavioral health.
  • Assist students in navigating the application process for the Licensed Substance Abuse Associate (LSAA) credential in New Mexico.
  • Respond to student inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with faculty to support student progress, retention, and completion.

Internship and Workforce Development
  • Coordinate and develop internship placements in collaboration with Career Services at NNMC.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with behavioral health agencies, treatment centers, and community organizations.
  • Ensure students are placed with state-approved supervisors required for licensure eligibility.
  • Monitor student internship progress and maintain communication with site supervisors.
  • Maintain current knowledge of state licensure requirements and industry standards to ensure program alignment with workforce needs.

Recruitment, Outreach, and Program Promotion
  • Represent Northern New Mexico College at recruitment events, career fairs, high school visits, and community outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with admissions, advising, and marketing teams to recruit and retain students.
  • Assist with marketing and promotion of the Substance Abuse Counselor AA program.
  • Support culturally responsive outreach efforts that reflect the needs of Northern New Mexico communities.

Program Administration and Development
  • Assist with program planning, program review, and collection of assessment data.
  • Support curriculum development discussions in collaboration with faculty and administration.
  • Assist with grant-related reporting and compliance, including data collection and documentation.
  • Help manage aspects of the program budget and resources, as assigned.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and institutional initiatives as required.
  • Provide support to the broader Psychology and Criminal Justice programs offered by the department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Addiction Studies, Behavioral Health, or a closely related field.
  • Professional experience in substance abuse counseling, behavioral health, or addiction treatment services.
  • Knowledge of New Mexico licensure requirements for substance abuse counselors (including LSAA).
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and advising skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor (LSAA, LADAC, or equivalent) in New Mexico or eligibility for licensure.
  • Experience coordinating internships, practicum placements, or workforce programs.
  • Experience with program development, recruitment, or community partnerships.
  • Familiarity with grant-funded programs or workforce development initiatives.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Successful completion of a defensive driving course is required within 60 days of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • No or very limited physical effort required;
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds;
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
