Join Sodexo as our next General Help at our exciting new Corrections client site launching in September 2026.

What You'll Do: 

The General Helper provides support services to ensure the safe, efficient, and orderly operation of a correctional facility. The incumbent performs a variety of routine duties, including cleaning, food service support, material handling, inventory movement, laundry services, and general housekeeping tasks. Working under supervision, the General Helper contributes to maintaining a clean, secure, and functional environment while complying with institutional policies, security procedures, and health and safety standards.

Key responsibilities: 

  • Perform general cleaning and housekeeping duties in assigned areas, including kitchens, dining areas, laundry facilities, storage rooms, and common spaces.

  • Assist with food service operations by setting up meal service areas, transporting supplies, portioning food items, and supporting meal distribution activities.

  • Support laundry operations by collecting, sorting, washing, drying, folding, and distributing linens, uniforms, and other facility-issued items.

  • Transport and distribute materials, equipment, supplies, and inventory throughout the facility as required.

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, equipment, tools, and storage locations in accordance with established procedures.

  • Receive, unpack, store, and rotate supplies and inventory, ensuring proper handling and storage practices.

  • Operate basic equipment and tools safely, reporting maintenance requirements, safety hazards, or damaged equipment to a supervisor.

  • Maintain accountability of tools, equipment, supplies, and chemicals and comply with institutional security requirements.

  • Follow all workplace health and safety regulations, infection prevention standards, and security protocols, reporting incidents, hazards, or security concerns promptly.

  • Provide general operational support and perform other related duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of the correctional facility.

Qualifications

What You Bring 

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
  • WHMIS certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Food Safety Certification may be considered an asset depending on operational requirements.
  • Experience in housekeeping, food services, laundry services, custodial work, warehousing, material handling, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in an institutional, healthcare, correctional, or industrial environment is considered an asset.
  • A team-first attitude and strong communication skills 
  • Physical ability to meet job demands (e.g., lifting, standing for long periods) 
  • Commitment to safety, respect, and inclusion
