The Merchant Services Associate is responsible for supporting the delivery, onboarding, service, and growth of merchant services. The role partners with Treasury Management, Commercial Banking, and Retail Banking team members to support client needs, assist with prospecting and relationship development activities, coordinate implementation, and provide a high level of client service. The Merchant Services Associate helps support growth of the Bank’s merchant card services portfolio while developing the consultative, sales, product, and relationship management skills needed to progress into a Merchant Services Consultant role.
As a Merchant Services Associate, you will:
  • Partner with Treasury Management, Commercial Banking, and Retail Banking team members to identify merchant services opportunities.
  • Lead client meetings, discovery conversations, needs assessments, relationship calls, follow-up activities, and service discussions to help recommend appropriate card processing, payment acceptance, and point-of-sale solutions to support merchant services growth, retention, and a strong client experience.
  • Support growth of the Bank’s merchant services portfolio by prospecting, client follow-up, banker referrals, and relationship development activities.
  • Partner with the Merchant Services Admin to prepare pricing, proposals, applications, and sales presentation materials.
  • Partner with the Merchant Services Admin to coordinate onboarding, installation, training, and implementation activities for credit/debit card processing, terminals, point-of-sale equipment, and related merchant solutions.
  • Provide responsive customer service by resolving merchant service issues in partnership with the Merchant Services Admin, vendors, or internal partners, and ensuring timely follow-up through resolution.
  • Support portfolio maintenance, merchant retention activities, and relationship support in partnership with the Merchant Services Admin to strengthen the client experience and deepen existing relationships.
  • Remain knowledgeable and up to date on merchant services, bankcard products, payment acceptance solutions, e-commerce, industry changes, and the overall business environment.
  • Uphold Nicolet’s philosophy and policies by maintaining appropriate controls to ensure full compliance with applicable laws and regulations, thereby fulfilling legal responsibilities and enhancing the quality of services provided by Nicolet.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field preferred; or related work experience.
  • Prior experience in customer service, retail banking, commercial banking, treasury management, operations, credit, collections, or merchant services preferred.
  • Prior sales experience in merchant services, financial services, or business-to-business client support preferred.
  • Knowledge of bankcard principles, terminals, Visa/Mastercard products and services, point-of-sale solutions, or payment processing preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, bankers, vendors, and internal partners.
  • Interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a client service mindset.
  • Ability to work independently with appropriate guidance while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to partner across Treasury Management, Commercial Banking, Retail Banking, branch teams, vendors, and operations partners.
  • Ability to listen, identify client needs, understand the merchant services and Treasury Management structure of commercial and retail clients, and support consultative recommendations for payment acceptance solutions.
  • Basic knowledge of retail banking, commercial banking, treasury management, payment processing, or merchant services products preferred.
  • Motivated to learn, grow, and develop toward expanded merchant services sales and consulting responsibilities.
