Their ultimate goal is to foster continuous learning and development within the workplace.

How does a Professional Development Consultant typically collaborate with clients and internal teams to design effective training programs?

Pacific Life is more than a job, it's a career with purpose. It's a career where you have the support, balance, and resources to make a positive impact on the future - including your own.
We're actively seeking a high-impact Application Development Consultant to join our Pacific Life Technology team as a remote employee or in one of our Home Office locations (Newport Beach, CA; Omaha, NE; Charlotte, NC).
As an Application Development Consultant, you'll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by joining a team of 10-12 experienced application development professionals. This role provides expert-level application development leadership to design, enhance, and deliver scalable Life policy administration capabilities to support CMD's ongoing growth. You will play a critical part to deliver complex software solutions, drive system sustainability and modernization, and identify innovative improvements across our processes and technology to ensure longterm scalability and operational excellence.
How you'll help move us forward:

  • Analyze complex business and technical requests and independently design, build, test, and deploy software solutions that support CMD's evolving objectives

  • Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and mentorship to elevate development practices within the team

  • Ensure architecture consistency across platforms by collaborating closely with technology leadership and architecture teams

  • Contribute to technical roadmaps and portfolio planning by identifying longterm opportunities, risks, and modernization strategies

Maintenance & Application Management

  • Promote reuse and simplification by identifying opportunities to leverage existing solution components

  • Ensure solutions are built using the appropriate technologies, comply with divisional standards, and meet functional and nonfunctional requirements

  • Define solution allocation across application areas, ensuring alignment with business rules embedded in core administration systems

  • Perform deepdive analysis of production issues, respond promptly to outages, and partner with business stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve system defects

  • Identify optimization opportunities that enhance resilience, reduce manual effort, or improve system performance

  • Conduct technical evaluations of software components, tools, and patterns to inform modernization initiatives

Partnership & Work Management

  • Independently manage priorities, risks, dependencies, and issue resolution across concurrent initiatives

  • Partner with various technology functions to ensure endtoend solution quality and continuity of knowledge across the Life Admin ecosystem

  • Contribute to a collaborative culture that encourages shared learning, broadens team capabilities, and strengthens crossfunctional alignment

The experience you bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in application development or technical support for mainframe applications and databases

  • Experience with Life Insurance processes and platforms

  • Hands-on expertise with Cyberlife, ALIS or Vantage

  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and iterative delivery

What makes you stand out:

  • Advanced knowledge of mainframe and policy administration system architecture

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with ability to build and influence cross-functional partnerships

  • Proven track record of technical leadership and elevating development standards
