United Rotary Brush is an Olathe, Kansas based manufacturer of specialty industrial brushes for the airport, road construction, street sweeping and plow industries. Our Olathe, KS, manufacturing facility (I-35 & Old 56 Hwy) is looking for a Production Supervisor for 1st shift. Our positions are a great fit for those individuals that take pride in their work to produce a quality product for our customers. JOB SUMMARY

The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading daily manufacturing operations while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, quality, and continuous improvement. This hands-on leader develops employees, solves production challenges, drives operational performance, and works collaboratively across departments to meet customer expectations. Success in this role requires sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to make decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety

  • Own the safety performance of the assigned shift.
  • Coach, guide and direct employees to company policy, processes and safety procedures.
  • Build a culture of accountability to company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.
  • Apply knowledge of safe equipment start-up and shut down and ability to assist.
  • Lead production operations on assigned shift.

Leadership/Supervision

  • Provide training and coaching, conduct performance evaluations.
  • Set clear performance expectations and hold employees accountable through regular coaching, feedback, and recognition.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and create employee development plans.
  • Foster a culture built on respect, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Assign work for shift employees and ensure that all employees adhere to proper use of time.
  • Maintain the schedule of breaks and lunches.
  • Promptly address employee relation issues directly, or with the assistance of the Production Manager and/or Human Resources.
  • Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action.
  • Supervisors are expected to provide leadership coverage before, during, and after scheduled shifts as operational needs require.

Production

  • Make day-to-day operational decisions to maintain production flow.
  • Prioritize labor and resources to meet changing production demands.
  • Escalate significant issues appropriately while independently resolving routine operational challenges.
  • Manage the setting of work schedules and provide support to departmental goals and expectations.
  • Daily startup walkthrough of all machinery and ensure all machinery is in proper working order.
  • Strive to reduce all machine down time, improve machine output and operator efficiency.
  • Assist in the development of new and improved manufacturing techniques, tooling and equipment, to improve product quality, effectiveness and employee safety.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives that improve safety, quality, throughput, and efficiency.
  • Analyze production data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Assure work orders are complete, accurate, and timely.
  • Submit daily reports, documentation, and attend production hand-off meetings.
  • Coordinate with shipping and receiving supervisor for storage of finished goods being produced.
  • Verification of material produced and correct packaging by work order.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of production area.

Quality

  • Ensure quality issues are contained and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Support root cause investigations into customer and internal quality concerns.
  • Promote a "quality at the source" culture.
  • Ensure standardized process is consistently followed.
  • Verify all quality check sheets.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Minimum three years of manufacturing supervisory experience.
  • Experience leading teams of 25–40 employees preferred.
  • Experience in Lean manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • The incumbent must be able to provide positive and effective communications, both verbal and written to managers, production team, and co-workers, including other maintenance staff regarding status, needs and recommendations to ensure the operating condition of equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of production methods, lean manufacturing practices documentation, data tracking and analysis, and operations management.
  • Must be able to effectively motivate and lead a production team to meet/exceed production standards.
  • Ability to work with basic office computer software including Microsoft Word and Excel at an intermediate level; PowerPoint a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, ability to take initiative.
  • Ability to pass forklift training and certification.
