Job description

Description

About the Role

As the Head of Technology Procurement, you will shape and advance Liberty Mutual's enterprise technology category strategy — a high-impact leadership role with the scope and visibility to drive meaningful change across the organization.

This role sits at the intersection of technology, business strategy, and procurement excellence. You will partner with senior executives and technology leaders, lead a team of category managers and analysts, and deliver measurable results through cost optimization, supplier performance, risk mitigation, and innovation.

If you are a strategic, results-oriented leader who is passionate about the role procurement can play in driving enterprise value - we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do:

Category Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and lead multi-year category strategies for enterprise technology spend, aligning to business priorities, technology roadmaps, transformation initiatives, and financial objectives
  • Maintain a current understanding of technology industry trends, supplier capabilities, commercial models, economic conditions, and regulatory changes — translating insights into actionable procurement strategies
  • Advance Procurement's continuous improvement roadmap, including process discipline, operating model enhancements, systems adoption, analytics maturity, and category management best practices

Stakeholder Partnership & Executive Influence

  • Partner closely with senior technology, business unit, finance, risk, legal, and operational leaders to identify, prioritize, and execute strategic procurement opportunities
  • Establish and maintain strong executive stakeholder relationships, acting as a trusted advisor on technology market dynamics, supplier strategy, demand management, commercial models, and total cost of ownership
  • Ensure Procurement is engaged early in relevant technology initiatives, projects, renewals, and investment decisions to improve planning, sourcing outcomes, supplier performance, and risk management

Sourcing & Commercial Excellence

  • Lead high-impact and high-risk technology procurement initiatives, including complex supplier negotiations, strategic partnerships, transformation programs, and innovation opportunities
  • Collaborate with senior functional leaders to challenge requirements where appropriate and identify opportunities to reduce demand, standardize specifications, consolidate suppliers, improve commercial terms, and optimize total cost of ownership
  • Lead the development and execution of annual cost savings, cost avoidance, demand management, and value creation programs that directly support company financial goals

Data-Driven Category Management

  • Guide the category strategy team in applying a rigorous, data-driven approach including spend analysis, market intelligence, supplier segmentation, opportunity assessment, sourcing prioritization, and benefits tracking
  • Develop and implement governance frameworks for technology spend to improve visibility, decision-making, compliance, supplier accountability, and alignment with enterprise priorities
  • Provide direction to cross-functional sourcing and category teams to achieve the optimal balance of business needs, supplier value, risk management, speed to market, and long-term enterprise value

People & Team Leadership

  • Build, manage, coach, and develop a high-performing team of category managers and analysts responsible for executing technology category strategies and partnering with internal stakeholders and external suppliers
  • Establish short- and long-range operating objectives, staffing plans, and performance goals to achieve category objectives — including spend under management, savings, value creation, risk reduction, supplier performance, and stakeholder engagement

What You'll Bring:

Technology Procurement Expertise

You have significant experience developing and executing category strategies across technology spend including software, cloud, infrastructure, hardware, telecom, IT services, cybersecurity, data, digital platforms, and professional services. You bring deep knowledge of technology supply markets, supplier ecosystems, commercial models, pricing structures, licensing constructs, and emerging technology trends.

Strategic Leadership & Stakeholder Influence

You are a confident and credible spokesperson for Procurement, with a proven ability to partner with senior technology leaders, business executives, finance, legal, and risk stakeholders. You know how to align procurement strategies with enterprise technology roadmaps and transformation priorities, and you can influence, challenge, and defend recommendations at the highest levels.

AI-First Mindset

You lead with an AI-first orientation and have hands-on experience applying AI to strengthen category strategies — from spend analysis and market intelligence to supplier evaluation and negotiation preparation. You are passionate about championing adoption, upskilling teams, and embedding AI-enabled ways of working across category management and sourcing execution.

Sourcing & Negotiation Excellence

You have a track record of leading complex supplier negotiations and strategic sourcing initiatives, including enterprise agreements, renewals, supplier consolidation, commercial optimization, and risk mitigation across high-value technology spend.

People Leadership

You are an inspiring leader who builds, coaches, and empowers high-performing teams. You instill a culture of accountability, ownership, and sound decision-making while creating an environment where people can do their best work.

Analytical & Commercial Acumen

You bring very strong analytical, financial, and commercial skills — including experience evaluating total cost of ownership, demand management opportunities, supplier performance, and overall business value.

Communication & Executive Presence

You communicate with clarity, confidence, and conviction. You are a skilled presenter and influencer who can engage effectively at all levels of the organization.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain, Finance, Technology, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience: 7–10 years in technology procurement, strategic sourcing, category management, or supplier management
  • Technology: Experience with procurement technologies including CLM, supplier management platforms, and analytics tools; Ariba or similar sourcing platforms preferred
  • Tools: Highly proficient in Microsoft Office — Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
