Job description

Performs radiographic and/or medical imaging and related procedures to assist in diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Education Requirements:

  • Required:
    •   Graduate of Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited radiographic program

License or Certification Requirements:

  • Required: Certification:
    • Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technology in Radiography, or registry eligible (must be certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technology within 90 days of employment)
  • Required: License:
    • Valid Mississippi Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT) Licensure

Experience Requirements:

  • Required:
    • None
  • Preferred:
    •   One (1) year as an MRI Technologist

Knowledge:

  • Extensive knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a customer service approach

Abilities:

  • Produce diagnostic information

Work Environment: Exposure to magnetic field. Exposure to chemical fumes which may be used in patient care. High patient volume.

Physical Demands: Ability to speak and hear for effective communication. Visual acuity and manual dexterity to process information. Frequent standing, stooping, reaching, walking, lifting, of patients and supplies is necessary.

  • Provides direct patient care and evaluates outcome
    • Selects and operates magnetic resonance system, surface coils, physiologic gating devices, and associated devices to achieve desired results
    • Selects appropriate pulsing sequences respecting established protocols and their factors influencing data acquisition parameters
    • Prepares and positions patient to best demonstrate anatomical area of interest, respecting the patient's ability and comfort
    • Maximizes productivity and efficiency within traditional benchmarks
  • Maintains quality control and quality assurance in the assigned division
    • Maintains archival storage of digitized data, as appropriate
    • Evaluates images for technical quality, manipulates display parameters, and provides a hard copy record of procedures assuring that proper identification is evident
    • Follows proper procedure to report equipment malfunctions
    • Participates in quality assessment and improvement plan. May be responsible for specific quality control duties in the assigned area
    • Applies principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self and others
    • Maintains archival storage of digitized data, as appropriate
  • Communicates patient/family health care needs to the appropriate health care provider
    • Provides patient education
    • Communicates variances and/or significant events to appropriate caregiver in a timely manner
    • Communicates with members of other disciplines to assure efficient quality patient care
  • Participates as a member of the team to achieve business goals, quality outcomes and customer satisfaction
    • Provides assistance to team members as requested or required
    • Regular and timely attendance is required for this job
    • Participates on committees/councils and performance improvement activities as requested/required
    • Successful completion of probation and annual skills/competency requirements
