Job description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently searching for a Process Engineer with experience in the chemical manufacturing industry.  In this role you will help lead in the management of the site's pressure relieving device systems and will provide other process engineering support of operating units in an active chemical manufacturing plant.

At this time, we will only consider applications from (US) citizens or those with the required permit/VISA for this region, in place.

Responsibilities:

  • Review existing and prepare new PFD's and P&ID's to support the process plant
  • Perform hydraulic calculations to support the site and as part of FEED for new projects
  • Review existing relieving device scenarios and data and perform relief calculations for pressure and vacuum relieving systems
  • Review and propose changes to process equipment, instrument, and relieving device data sheets
  • Identify, develop, and support FEED packages and programs to improve profitability, reliability, quality, safety and reduce variability
  • Perform process engineering for the development and optimization of new and existing equipment and systems using knowledge and application of chemical engineering fundamentals
  • Design and optimize production processes
  • Report status of the tasks regularly to Process Engineering Manager and other site stakeholders
  • Review and validate existing heat and materials balances and conduct new ones as needed
  • Take reasonable care of your own health & safety and of others who may be affected by you
  • Co-operate with Wood's and client's Health Safety Security and Environmental (HSSE) requirements by following all relevant health and safety policies and practice safe work habits
  • Implement established procedures to ensure compliance to Quality and HSSE requirements
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in Quality and HSSE and notify the relevant department
Skills / Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or other Engineering discipline required
  • 10+ years process engineering experience in chemical manufacturing, preferably in a batch polymerization process
  • At least five years spent working directly at the chemical plant site
  • Strong technical engineering skills; including knowledge of process safety engineering (PHAs, MOC, and safety systems interlock)
  • Strong understanding of relief and venting system design
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail conscious with the ability to work with confidential information.
  • Highly organized, ability to work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple project tasks simultaneously
  • Effective communication skills with ability to communicate internally and externally with all levels of the organization.
  • Good working knowledge of ASME Sections I and VIII
  • Good working knowledge of API 520, 521, 527 & 2000 and NFPA 68 and 652
  • Strong computer skills - Excel, SAP, PI Process Book

Desirable Qualifications

  • Six Sigma Green Belt (or above)
