Electrical Engineer - EV Powertrain Systems

Current EV Motors | Dripping Springs, TX (Austin area) | On-site

Current EV Motors is advancing mobility with patented, scalable EV conversion technology. Our direct-drive conversion systems eliminate the engine and transmission, delivering more power, efficiency, and safety for vintage classics and commercial fleets. We are a small (but growing), hands-on team turning vehicles people already love into the future of transportation.

We are hiring an Electrical Engineer to own the electrical side of our conversion kits and vehicle integrations.

About the Role

You will design, integrate, test, and document the high and low-voltage electrical systems that make our kits work in real vehicles – trucks, vans, buses, and classics. This is a high-impact, workshop-plus-desk role: you will go from schematic and component selection to wiring, bring-up, and road validation.

Responsibilities
  • Design and optimize HV/LV architectures, power distribution, wiring harnesses, interconnects, and vehicle electrical integration for all conversion kits.
  • Specify, integrate, and validate battery systems, VCUs, inverters, motor controllers, BMS, DC-DC converters, chargers, contactors, fuses, and related power electronics.
  • Ensure high-voltage safety, isolation monitoring, grounding, and alignment with relevant automotive and electrical standards.
  • Support prototype and production builds: hands-on wiring, assembly, troubleshooting, bench and vehicle testing.
  • Create and maintain schematics, BOMs, wiring diagrams, test plans, and technical documentation.
  • Work closely with mechanical/design teammates on packaging, drive-unit, battery, and accessory integration, validation, and testing.
  • Help make kits more scalable, safer, and easier to install.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years in automotive, EV, or power-electronics work (high-voltage systems strongly preferred).
  • Experience with EV powertrains, BMS, inverters/controllers, CAN or similar vehicle networks, and high-voltage safety practices.
  • Comfortable in a shop environment: wiring, assembly, diagnostics, and on-vehicle work.
  • Strong documentation and problem-solving skills; able to work independently in a small, fast-moving team.
  • Punctuality and commitment: Arrive on time and complete a day’s work without excuses.
  • Personal drive and sense of urgency in all things.
  • Organization of thought, personal space, and the communal shop/work environment.
  • A success-through-innovation philosophy.
Nice to Have
  • Direct EV conversion or re-power experience.
  • Schematic/harness tools (Arcadia / Cadonix or similar) and familiarity with Fusion 360 or other CAD.
  • Vintage vehicle or fleet-truck background.
  • Knowledge of functional safety, EMC, or relevant SAE/ISO/UL practices.
