Process Controls Technician

Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to develop, improve, and maintain the automation systems at the Dayton site.  This includes but is not limited to ensuring the automation systems are functioning properly to keep the daily production runs on schedule, maintaining the measurement and control equipment, improving the HMIs/user interfaces and PLC/DCS systems, and supporting the digitalization of manual processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and improving the plant PLC/DCS systems
  • Creation of sequences/sequential function charts for reactors and batch recipes
  • Ensure Process Automation is effectively utilized to optimize plant performance
  • Support in troubleshooting production issues related to automation
  • Provide training as needed to the chemical line operators
  • Tuning of measurement systems and control loops, including but not limited to transmitters, sensors, valves, actuators, positioners, controllers, ladder logic, and HMI systems
  • Optimization of production processes by supporting the process engineering team
  • Execute and/or support capital projects where necessary to improve the automation, measurement and control systems
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to the Operational team along with supporting Root Cause Failure Analysis efforts for production, EHS, and Quality incidents
  • Coordinate, complete, and document Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), Management of Change (MOC), and process safety revalidations, to meet process safety and environmental requirements
  • Handle confidential information with care
  • Apply troubleshooting/problem solving to quickly respond to operational issues
  • Provide input to department annual budgeting where applicable
  • Adherence to Code of Conduct as applicable to job function:  CoC Guideline No. 1:  Guideline for the Procurement of Products and Services, No. 2:  Guideline for the Prevention of Bribery in Commercial Transactions, No. 3:  Guideline for the Acceptance of Precious Metals and No. 4:  Guideline for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Participation in Criminal Acts
  • Implements the requirements of the Heraeus HPS EHS Development Path and GBU EHS requirements. Establishes EHS goals and targets as part of the continuous improvement process. Is aware of the EHS management system and how it applies to their area of responsibility and assures that equipment, facilities or plant(s) are operated in accordance with applicable laws and with Company EHS policies and other requirements
Education and/or Experience

A two-year degree and/or relevant training and 5-7 years of controls experience are required OR a bachelor's degree in engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical or equivalent) 2 years of controls experience in an automated manufacturing environment.  Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment is preferred.  The equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.  A respect for and adherence to environmental, health and safety standards is required. Interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in a professional manner are required.  Organizational skills, teamwork skills, the ability to multi-task, and the ability to solve problems are required. Computer proficiency in an MRP system as well as MS Office is required.

Technical Skills

Experience with the following programs, skills, and software are preferred:

  • Rockwell/Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs and RSLogix Suite
  • OSISoft PI System
  • Opto 22
  • Ladder logic and code writing experience
  • 4-20 mA and/or HART protocol
  • PID loop tuning experience
  • Instrument scaling and calibration experience
  • Modbus
  • Building automation systems, such as JACE, etc.
