Job description

MDW Associates, LLC is seeking a Business Analyst, Mid-Level to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) ORBIT enterprise modernization environment in Huntsville, Alabama. This role will support requirements discovery, process analysis, documentation, testing, stakeholder coordination, and Agile delivery for business, acquisition, contracting, financial management, and related enterprise applications.

The Business Analyst will work closely with users, government stakeholders, product owners, developers, and project leadership to translate mission and business needs into clear requirements, user stories, process flows, acceptance criteria, and release-ready documentation. The ideal candidate will understand business process modernization, low-code application delivery, and the practical realities of supporting enterprise systems in a federal environment.

This role is on-site/hybrid.

The Business Analyst may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties:

  • Conduct requirements discovery sessions, stakeholder interviews, workshops, and process walkthroughs to define business needs for ORBIT and related enterprise applications.
  • Translate customer needs into clear functional requirements, user stories, use cases, acceptance criteria, business rules, and process documentation.
  • Support Product Owners, project managers, and technical leads in defining minimum viable product scope, release priorities, sprint backlog items, and enhancement roadmaps.
  • Analyze current-state and future-state business processes, identify gaps, and recommend process improvements that support system modernization and user adoption.
  • Document workflows, process models, data needs, interface requirements, user roles, permissions, reporting requirements, and system behavior.
  • Collaborate with Appian developers, SharePoint developers, database engineers, and technical stakeholders to ensure requirements are feasible, traceable, testable, and aligned to mission outcomes.
  • Support data validation, migration, reporting, and interface analysis related to financial management, contracting, acquisition, HR, or business operations processes.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily coordination, reviews, retrospectives, and release planning.
  • Support testing activities, including test case development, user acceptance testing, defect documentation, regression testing, and validation of deployed functionality.
  • Prepare briefings, meeting notes, decision logs, user guides, standard operating procedures, training materials, and other documentation to support deployment and sustainment.
  • Coordinate with project managers, developers, help desk staff, and government stakeholders using tools such as Jira, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and related collaboration platforms.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • 3 years of business analysis, requirements analysis, systems analysis, process improvement, product support, or related experience.
  • Experience eliciting, documenting, and managing requirements for enterprise applications, workflow systems, financial systems, or business process modernization efforts.
  • Experience developing user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, business rules, test cases, or other delivery documentation.
  • Familiarity with Agile development processes, backlog management, sprint planning, release planning, and user acceptance testing.
  • Strong analytical, facilitation, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, functional users, project managers, and government stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and issue-tracking or Agile tools such as Jira.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance required.

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense, federal government, or federal contractor environments.
  • Experience with MDA, defense acquisition, contracting, financial management, budget execution, HR, or business operations systems.
  • Experience supporting Appian, SharePoint, low-code/no-code platforms, workflow automation, ERP systems, or enterprise modernization programs.
  • Experience conducting stakeholder workshops, process reengineering sessions, or requirements discovery sessions for application development teams.
  • Experience supporting data modeling, data-interface requirements, reporting requirements, dashboard needs, or data validation activities.
  • Experience supporting system testing, user acceptance testing, defect triage, release readiness, training, and user adoption.
  • Familiarity with BPMN, process mapping, wireframes, mockups, functional decomposition, traceability matrices, or related business analysis artifacts.
  • Appian Analyst, Appian training, Agile, Scrum, SAFe, ITIL, or related certifications are a plus.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
