What Is a Presentation Designer?

A presentation designer creates visually appealing business presentations for clients to use. As a presentation designer, your duties include assessing the length and style of the presentation, choosing fonts, graphics, and other visual elements for the slides, and working with clients to ensure the message is presented effectively. Qualifications for the career include a high level of proficiency with graphic design and presentation software. An advanced degree is not necessary, but it can be helpful for the job and set you ahead of other candidates. Other skills and experience necessary include verbal and written communication, an understanding of design principles, and knowledge and background in print technologies and processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Presentation Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Presentation Designer, you need strong graphic design skills, an eye for visual storytelling, and proficiency in layout principles, usually supported by a degree or experience in design or a related field. Expertise in tools like Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, Adobe Creative Suite, and familiarity with templates and branding guidelines is essential. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help you translate complex ideas into engaging visual presentations and collaborate effectively with clients or teams. These abilities ensure the delivery of impactful, clear, and visually compelling presentations that achieve communication objectives.

What are some common challenges faced by Presentation Designers when collaborating with non-design stakeholders?

Presentation Designers often collaborate with team members from marketing, sales, and executive leadership who may not have a design background. A common challenge is translating complex ideas or data into visually engaging slides while balancing stakeholder preferences and brand guidelines. Effective communication and active listening are key to understanding the goals of each presentation and addressing feedback constructively. Flexibility and the ability to educate stakeholders about design principles can help ensure successful outcomes and smooth collaboration.

This position emphasizes execution, precision, and creative support, ensuring consistency and excellence in all design deliverables. Working under the guidance of the Art Director and in collaboration with the Design Manager, you will help bring visual concepts to life that support corporate communications, data visualization, and multimedia presentations.
What you'll do:
Presentation & Visual Design Execution
  • Execute the design, development, and refinement of high-end PowerPoint presentations, custom infographics, and client-facing materials under tight deadlines.
  • Translate creative direction and design briefs into visually engaging assets across print, digital, and video platforms.
  • Collaborate with various teams to conceptualize presentations, advertising, and other visual materials that align with branding and communication goals.
  • Proof, refine, and polish presentations, advertisements, and other design assets to ensure absolute accuracy and visual appeal.
Multimedia & Data Visualization
  • Create multimedia content, including video editing for new business pitches, the People Team, trade shows, online platforms, and client presentations.
  • Support the Art Director on visual projects involving corporate communications, video, photography, and data visualizations.
  • Assist in producing audience insights projects through engaging, easy-to-understand, and effective data visualizations.
  • Assist in photo and video editing, asset management, and versioning of design materials.
Brand Stewardship & Team Support
  • Support the Design Manager and Art Director in developing layouts, illustrations, and motion graphics.
  • Maintain and strictly apply brand guidelines to all projects, ensuring a cohesive identity and established design standards across all materials.
  • Prepare final artwork files for production and digital deployment, ensuring complete technical accuracy.
  • Manage multiple projects efficiently, adhering to deadlines and seamlessly adjusting designs based on constructive feedback.

What you'll bring:

  • 3–5 years of professional experience in graphic design, visual communications, or presentation design, ideally within a fast-paced media, advertising, or creative agency environment.
  • Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field.
  • Advanced skills in PowerPoint and Google Docs are required.
  • Significant experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and Word.
  • Must be proficient working in a Macintosh environment.
  • Video editing capabilities, a strong ability to touch-up/enhance photos, and robust digital organization/archiving skills. You are a natural visual problem-solver.
  • Superior organizational abilities, exceptional time management, and keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to shift priorities quickly and manage tight deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A team-oriented mindset with a positive, collaborative attitude.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as required.
