Calibration Engineer – Powertrain & Thermal Systems

Job Type: Long-Term Contract (3+ Years)
Location: Northville, MI

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Calibration Engineer to support the development and optimization of advanced automotive powertrain and thermal management systems. This role will focus on bench and vehicle evaluations, software calibration, testing, and validation of vehicle control systems.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with vehicle or powertrain calibration and a strong understanding of automotive control systems. Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct bench and vehicle evaluations to assess system performance and identify calibration opportunities.
• Perform software calibration of powertrain and thermal systems, including:
• • Transmission systems
  • Electric motor inverters
  • Battery systems
  • Energy management systems
  • Thermal management systems
  • Cabin controls
• Support vehicle and powertrain controller software calibration development.
• Plan and coordinate calibration activities and vehicle evaluations to meet project milestones.
• Set up, configure, and maintain calibration tools and test equipment to ensure accurate and reliable testing.
• Analyze vehicle and system data to identify performance issues and recommend calibration improvements.
• Collaborate with engineering, software, controls, testing, and other cross-functional teams to ensure calibration activities meet project requirements and technical standards.
• Document calibration procedures, test results, findings, and recommendations.
• Track calibration activities and support projects within established budgets, timelines, and quality requirements.
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving system performance issues identified during bench and vehicle testing.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of calibration processes, tools, and methodologies.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of professional engineering experience.
• Proven experience with vehicle or powertrain calibration, preferably within the automotive industry.
• Strong understanding of powertrain systems, thermal management systems, and vehicle control modules.
• Experience using calibration and measurement tools such as ETAS INCA, CANape, or similar software.
• Ability to analyze test data and identify opportunities for system and calibration improvements.
• Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with bench and vehicle testing/evaluation.
• Experience calibrating transmission, electric motor/inverter, battery, energy management, thermal management, or cabin control systems.
• Familiarity with automotive communication networks and vehicle data acquisition.
• Experience supporting controller software development and calibration.
• Strong project planning and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
