Job Summary

The Retail Manager is responsible for the overall strategic direction, daily operations, and performance of Killington Sports. This leadership role focuses on maximizing sales growth, optimizing inventory management, and delivering an unparalleled, premium guest experience reflective of the Killington brand.

In addition to managing the physical storefront, this role oversees customer service for the online retail store and handles the administration and tracking of purchase orders. The Retail Manager leads, inspires, and develops the store leadership team and front-line staff, ensuring high operational standards and a collaborative team culture. This position reports directly to the Senior Retail Manager and requires a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, to match resort operational peaks.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, coach, and develop supervisors and sales associates.
  • Foster a positive team culture focused on accountability, collaboration, guest service, and professional development.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Lead employee training initiatives related to product knowledge, sales techniques, guest service standards, and operational procedures.
  • Oversee inventory management, including purchase order administration, receiving processes, stock control, inventory reconciliation, and shrink prevention.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure product availability and support sales goals.
  • Manage labor budgets, employee scheduling, payroll administration, and daily operational workflows.
  • Analyze sales trends, inventory reports, and guest feedback to identify opportunities to improve store performance and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and retail operating standards.
  • Deliver exceptional guest service across both in-store and online retail channels.
  • Oversee online retail customer service, including order support, returns, and issue resolution.
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for guest concerns and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Maintain visual merchandising standards that create an engaging shopping experience and support the Killington brand.
  • Support and motivate staff to achieve sales goals and performance expectations.
  • Provide leadership on the sales floor and support front-line operations during peak business periods.
  • Utilize and support retail technology platforms, including Square POS, Yellow Dog Inventory Management, e-commerce systems, payroll and scheduling systems, and Microsoft Office applications.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of retail management experience, preferably in a high-volume retail, resort, outdoor recreation, or sporting goods environment.
  • Experience with POS and inventory management systems required; experience with Square, Yellow Dog, or similar retail platforms preferred.
  • Experience supporting e-commerce operations preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
