About Agri-Cycle

Agri-Cycle is New England's largest and fastest-growing food waste collection company. We partner with businesses, institutions, and communities across the region to divert organic material from landfills and turn it into renewable energy, high-quality compost, and animal feed.


Position Overview

The Compost Operations Manager is an integral member of the Agri-Cycle team, based at our composting facility in North Hartland, Vermont, which is operated in partnership with the Greater Upper Valley Solid Waste District (GUVSWD). This role oversees all aspects of day-to-day composting operations, including sourcing amendments, receiving and processing incoming organic material, recipe building, and managing overall site activities. The Compost Operations Manager is also responsible for monitoring and documenting key pile metrics, and for operating and maintaining site equipment along with other members of the team. This is a full-time, on-site position that works closely with the Agri-Cycle team, including the Transfer Facility Manager based at the same location, to identify and implement operational improvements. The role reports to the General Manager and/or Compost Division Lead. Occasional weekend availability may be needed to support community events and operational needs.

Key Responsibilities


Production & Operations

Oversee all material logistics, including sourcing amendments, feedstock reception, recipe mixing, and management of the Aerated Static Pile (ASP) process, windrow turning, screening, and testing, to ensure efficient and consistent production output.

Quality Control, Record Keeping & Product Sales Support

Monitor, record, and analyze key pile metrics to maintain product quality and ensure finished compost meets established market specifications. Assist in cultivating customer end markets for the finished product with potential for performance bonuses related to meeting certain sales thresholds.

Equipment & Facility Maintenance

Maintain site cleanliness and equipment readiness by adhering to established daily operational checklists and proactive preventive maintenance practices.

Community Relations & Outreach

Participate in on-site community programming, including free compost distribution days, school group tours, and educational outreach initiatives. Build and maintain positive relationships with community.


Qualifications

• 1-3 years of hands-on composting experience, combined with formal operator training from the State of Vermont or equivalent coursework

• Experience operating heavy equipment, including loaders and skid steers

• Ability and willingness to follow established SOPs for compost recipe development and processing, using a combination of Aerated Static Pile and open windrow systems

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with community partners

• Willingness to travel to local industry events and conferences as needed
