Job description

Description:

We are seeking a dependable and experienced Planer Operator to join our lumber mill team. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining planer equipment to produce high-quality finished lumber according to grade and customer specifications. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical skills, understands lumber grading standards, and prioritizes safety and efficiency in a production environment.


Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate planer machines to meet production and quality standards
  • Adjust planer settings for thickness, width, and surface finish
  • Monitor lumber flow and identify defects or quality issues
  • Ensure finished lumber meets grade specifications
  • Inspect equipment daily and perform routine maintenance and knife changes
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and production issues
  • Maintain accurate production reports
  • Work closely with graders, stacker operators, and maintenance staff
  • Follow all safety policies and OSHA regulations
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience operating a planer in a lumber mill environment
  • Strong understanding of lumber dimensions, grades, and moisture content
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor equipment repairs
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, industrial setting
  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
