Job description

The Pipe Support Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the structural integrity, constructability, and functionality of piping systems by designing and implementing effective pipe support solutions.
Location: Camden, NJ (On-site)
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design pipe support systems including rigid supports, spring supports, snubbers, guides, and anchors.
  • Interpret piping stress analysis results and develop appropriate support configurations.
  • Prepare and review pipe support drawings, standards, and fabrication sketches.
  • Perform support design calculations and load evaluations, and prepare and review pipe support analysis reports for various piping systems, including Weld Pipe Attachment (WPA) evaluation.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME B31.1, B31.3, and MSS standards.
  • Coordinate with piping stress, layout, and structural teams.
  • Develop support configurations/designs within 3D tools (SmartPlant 3D, PDMS, etc.), with familiarity with Navisworks for model review.
  • Review vendor drawings and support hardware documentation. Candidate should be familiar with pipe support vendor components such as LISEGA (preferred), ANVIL, Hilti, etc.
  • Prepare material requisitions and perform technical bid evaluations.
  • Support construction and resolve field issues.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in piping support engineering.
  • Knowledge of pipe support hardware and thermal expansion effects.
  • Familiarity with piping stress analysis outputs.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.1, B31.3, and MSS standards.
  • Experience with SmartPlant 3D, PDMS/E3D, AutoCAD, or MicroStation.
  • Ability to perform support calculations and MTOs.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in nuclear or heavy industrial projects, including ASME Section III (NF) pipe supports.
  • Knowledge of dynamic supports (snubbers, seismic).
  • Familiarity with FEA tools such as ANSYS, STAAD.Pro and/or GT-STRUDL.
  • Ability to use Lisega LICAD software to produce vendor support assemblies.
  • Eligibility to work under 10 CFR Part 810
