It offers opportunities in industries such as oil and gas, manufacturing, and power plants, with potential for career growth and competitive salaries. The role typically involves site inspections, design, and adherence to engineering codes.

What is a pipe support engineer?

A Pipe Support Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and ensuring the proper support of piping systems in industrial facilities such as power plants, refineries, and chemical plants. They work to prevent excessive stress, vibration, and displacement by selecting and designing appropriate supports, hangers, and restraints. Their role involves collaborating with piping, structural, and mechanical engineers to ensure safe and efficient piping configurations. They also follow industry standards and codes like ASME, ANSI, and API to ensure compliance and reliability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pipe support engineer?

To thrive as a Pipe Support Engineer, a strong background in mechanical engineering, structural analysis, and materials science is essential, typically supported by an engineering degree. Proficiency with engineering design software such as AutoCAD, CAESAR II, and familiarity with relevant codes and standards like ASME are commonly required. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

As part of a dynamic and dedicated team of Mechanical and Fluid Engineers, you will play a crucial role in developing systems to test rocket engines and space flight vehicles. You will contribute significantly to all aspects of test stand design. Your responsibilities will include designing fluid and piping systems for test facilities, coordinating with suppliers, and overseeing the construction, installation, and commissioning of new test facilities. Occasional travel to other sites (up to 25%) may be required to support operations.

  • Perform stress analysis on piping and tubing systems.

  • Define and specify pipe support components (anchors, guides, spring hangers, etc.).

  • Design and analyze structural supports.

  • Lead and own the design of high-pressure gas and cryogenic fluid systems

  • Conduct Process Hazard Analysis activities for fluid systems (HAZOP).

  • Manage suppliers, coordinating cost, schedule, and technical design requirements.

  • Provide remote and on-site support during the fabrication, installation, and start-up of new facilities or upgrades.

  • Coordinate with customers to refine project scope and requirements.

  • Mentor newer engineers and perform peer reviews as appropriate based on experience level.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in pipe support selection, design, and analysis

  • Practical knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods for piping systems (pipe stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.).

  • Knowledgeable of fluid system components (e.g., valves, regulators, and pumps for cryogenics, propellants, and other fluids).

  • Practical knowledge of ASME B31.3 and ASME BPVC codes.

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Engineering degree
