What Is a Performance Manager?

A performance manager seeks to create a system in which employees can perform at their best by creating clear goals and expectations. Rather than a traditional corporate system of employee appraisal and evaluation, performance managers try to communicate end goals and align each employee’s work with these aims. In this role, you may seek the development of benchmarks so that the company’s departments or groups can measure their progress concretely. This is an ongoing effort. Benchmarks and goals must change, so you must continually find new ways to measure progress and to inspire effort.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Performance Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Performance Manager, you need a strong background in analytics, goal-setting frameworks, and organizational development, often supported by a degree in business or human resources. Familiarity with performance management systems, HR analytics tools, and project management software is typically required. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities set standout candidates apart in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for driving employee productivity, aligning team objectives with organizational goals, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

How does a Performance Manager typically collaborate with other departments to drive organizational success?

Performance Managers work closely with leaders and teams across departments—such as HR, operations, and finance—to align performance metrics with organizational goals. They often facilitate regular meetings to review progress, provide feedback, and identify areas for improvement. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to translate data insights into actionable strategies that support both team development and business objectives. Effective collaboration ensures that performance initiatives are integrated and sustained throughout the organization.

What are Performance Managers?

Performance Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and improving the productivity and effectiveness of employees or systems within an organization. They set performance metrics, monitor progress, and provide feedback to ensure goals are met efficiently. Performance Managers often work closely with team leaders and HR to implement training and development programs. Their role is crucial in aligning individual and team performance with the company's objectives.

What is the difference between Performance Manager vs Performance Analyst?

Both roles require similar educational backgrounds and are integral to organizational success, but they differ in scope and daily responsibilities.

The Team:The Product Performance group manages the operational framework for the entire product organization within MI's Enterprise Solutions. This team designs and manages the processes, data analytics, and tool ecosystems that enable our product teams to build, launch, and scale enterprise solutions effectively and consistently. Comprised of the Product Delivery and Product Operations teams, we are the driving force behind the delivery of superior solutions for our customers.

Responsibilities & Impact: As the Head of Product Performance, you will directly influence how our products go to market and perform. By streamlining the product development lifecycle and leveraging data-driven insights, you will accelerate product delivery, enforce cross-functional alignment, and drive user adoption. Your leadership ensures that our product strategy and operational investments translate directly into measurable efficiency and growth. • Lead, scale, and mentor the Product Performance function, including the Product Delivery and Product Operations teams, empowering them to execute on complex organizational objectives.

  • Set the strategic vision and framework for the product development lifecycle (PDLC) and oversee the governance of key operating rituals (e.g., Annual Planning, Quarterly Business Reviews, Product Kick-Offs, Demo Days, etc.).

  • Direct the framework and strategic approach for critical Tier 1 product launches, enabling your team to build world-class go-to-market products with a delivery-first mindset.

  • Champion a data-driven culture at the executive level by guiding the analytics team's strategy in leveraging tooling and usage platforms to surface actionable insights and translate data into high-level business strategies.

  • Define the strategic roadmap for the product organization's operational tool stack and act as the executive sponsor for data integrity initiatives to establish a single source of truth (e.g., in Aha! Roadmap, Pendo, Bloomfire).

  • Facilitate the learning paths of both internal and external stakeholders through the support and maintenance of our learning platforms and help documentation.

  • Ensure internal and external roadmaps clearly articulate strategic product direction.

  • Champion the strategic integration of AI solutions to accelerate the PDLC, sponsor targeted proof-of-concepts, and drive the vision for the operational efficiency of AI tools.

  • Act as a strategic partner to Product Leads and senior executive leadership, ensuring teams are properly supported, process improvements are adopted, and segment-specific business needs are met.

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):

  • Proven track record of building, mentoring, and leading high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Strategic understanding of the product development lifecycle (PDLC) and the ability to design, govern, and implement effective operating rhythms at an enterprise scale.

  • Strong executive-level analytical mindset with the ability to direct analytics strategy and interpret complex data insights to drive business decisions.

  • Experience acting as an executive sponsor to drive enterprise-wide change management and the adoption of product management ecosystems.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement across a highly matrixed organization.

  • Strategic thinker with an "AI-first" vision and experience applying AI concepts to improve organizational operating efficiency.

  • Exceptional executive communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Flexible Working (optional)

  • We pride ourselves on our agility and diversity, and we welcome requests to work flexibly. For most roles, flexible hours and/or an element of remote working are usually possible. Please talk to us at interview about the type of arrangement that is best for you. We will always try to be adaptable wherever we can.
