What is a PEIMS job?

A PEIMS (Public Education Information Management System) job involves managing and reporting student, staff, financial, and organizational data for a school district in compliance with state requirements. PEIMS specialists ensure data accuracy, analyze reports, and submit required information to the Texas Education Agency (TEA). They work closely with administrators, educators, and IT staff to maintain data integrity and support decision-making. Attention to detail and knowledge of state reporting guidelines are essential for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Peims position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a PEIMS (Public Education Information Management System) Coordinator, you need a strong understanding of data management, attention to detail, and knowledge of Texas education reporting requirements, often supported by a relevant degree or experience in school administration. Familiarity with student information systems (such as Skyward or PowerSchool), state reporting software, and ongoing training in PEIMS protocols is essential. Strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate with educators and administrators set outstanding candidates apart. These capabilities ensure accurate data submission, compliance with state regulations, and smooth school operations.

What are the typical responsibilities and workflow of a PEIMS Coordinator within a school district?

A PEIMS Coordinator is primarily responsible for collecting, verifying, and submitting student and staff data to comply with Texas state education requirements. Their workflow often involves collaborating closely with registrars, counselors, and administrative staff to ensure data accuracy and resolve discrepancies. Daily tasks may include updating student records, preparing reports, and monitoring deadlines for state submissions. The role is vital for district funding and compliance, and coordinators often work both independently and as part of a team to maintain data integrity throughout the school year.
