Patient Access Lead / Trainer

The Patient Access Lead / Trainer plays a vital role in supporting daily operations, staff development, and patient access excellence. This position serves as a subject matter expert, ensuring high standards in customer service, regulatory compliance, and workflow efficiency across registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and authorization processes.

A Day in the Life of the Patient Access Lead / Trainer

As a Patient Access Lead / Trainer, you will begin your day supporting front-line staff by answering questions, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring workflows run smoothly across registration, scheduling, and eligibility functions.

Throughout the day, you will monitor work queues and processes, helping prioritize tasks, resolve complex patient access issues, and ensure accurate, timely service delivery. You will collaborate closely with leadership to maintain coverage, support operational goals, and enhance overall department performance.

Training and development are key parts of your role. You will coordinate department specific onboarding for new hires, develop and maintain training materials, and provide ongoing education to staff related to policies, systems, payer requirements, and workflow updates. You will also identify performance gaps and deliver targeted training to strengthen team competency and confidence.

You will play an important role in quality and compliance by conducting audits, ensuring accuracy of registrations and insurance verification, and promoting adherence to policies, regulatory standards, and HIPAA requirements.

Collaboration is essential, as you will work with clinical teams, revenue cycle, and leadership to communicate updates, support process improvements, and ensure a seamless patient access experience from start to finish.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of Patient Access experience required
  • Strong knowledge of registration, insurance coverage, verification, and billing processes

Certifications

  • One of the following certifications required within 18 months of hire:
    • Certified Patient Access Specialist (CPAS)
    • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA)
    • Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR)
