POSITION: Career Pathways Coordinator

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Career Pathways Coordinator (CPC) provides leadership in the planning,
development and operation of a comprehensive program of career pathways within the
framework of the total 6-12 educational program that supports student exploration and
selection of career clusters, pathways, and plans of study with integration of academics.
The CPC makes regular contacts at all levels of the organization to increase
understanding of the Career Pathways Programs. He/she is regularly present in middle
and high schools to provide direction and to support teachers with recognizing interests
and needs of students as they develop the knowledge and skills required for college
and career readiness. Considerable professional judgment is required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
โ€ข Connecticut certification must be grade appropriate.
โ€ข Minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience;
โ€ข Successful experience as a mentor and;
โ€ข Professional development leadership experience and participation in professional development opportunities related to career and technical education are desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
โ€ข Knowledge of principles and practices of public schools and school logistics,
ability to implement and monitor initiatives and ability to organize, schedule and
monitor multiple tasks.
โ€ข Understanding of effective project management and project implementation to
track, manage, and lead development of pathways such that progress is explicit and obvious
to stakeholders.
โ€ข Ability to train and advise staff, to communicate effectively (orally and in writing)
and
demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills to facilitate and manage
project development, classroom support, and budget management.
โ€ข Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for
working
effectively with students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community
members
โ€ข Demonstrated ability to use and access a variety of media and technology to
support job
function including, but not limited to, proficient use of Google applications.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Program
โ€ข Directs the planning, strategic development and operation of the Career
Pathways programming of the New Milford Public Schools to ensure that pathways
support coherent and seamless learning sequences that align both academic and
technical skills with college and workplace readiness.
โ€ข Supports, facilitates, and coordinates secondary (grades 6-12) career readiness
programs through planning and implementation processes which include but are not
limited to career clusters/pathways, plans of study, and academic integration.
โ€ข Leads and supports teachers in the development and implementation of
progression of courses leading to industry credentialing or certification and/or the
opportunity for students to participate in concurrent dual enrollment classes aligned with
associate's or bachelor's degree prior to or following graduation.
โ€ข Serves as a liaison and active participant on a variety of District, Community and
State committees as an educational leader and a voice for college and career
readiness.
โ€ข Works with the CTE Advisory Committee to coordinate and communicate
program objectives, seek advice and recommendations on current job needs, and to
gather input and support for the development, implementation and evaluation of the
local Perkins Plan and budget.
โ€ข Coordinates with educational, workforce and business partners, and appropriate
experts and resources to create, utilize and improve career pathways components.
โ€ข Explains the Career Pathways Model to principals, teachers, counselors, and
students; works collaboratively with the Grades 6-12 school counseling departments to
coordinate academic articulation (core-elective-selective) and to ensure that a Student
Success Plan is developed for each student (by eighth grade entry) that creates a
program of study for high school graduation which is aligned with a career pathway
and/or college entry based on student academic and career interests.
โ€ข Ensures that work-based learning and on-the-job experiences are provided to
students for the purpose of career exploration and preparation, to include service
learning, job shadowing, mentorships, internships, apprenticeships, clinical experiences
and cooperative education.
โ€ข Coordinates parent communication regarding college and career pathways for
students.
โ€ข Participates in professional development to expand knowledge of current best
practices
and instructional programming in career pathways.
โ€ข Collaborates with teachers to improve curricula and instructional delivery
methods
arranges, directs and/or provides professional development training for staff.
โ€ข Develops, coordinates and organizes a senior exhibition and/or capstone
presentation.
โ€ข Develops strategies and protocols (including surveys and interviews) to gather
data on career pathway programs and student success from career planning to post-
graduation job placement, college entry, and satisfaction/readiness; analyzes data,
reports findings to the school and district, and uses the data in support of continuous
program improvement.
โ€ข Advises and assists in obtaining State and Federal funds for Career Pathways
programs; prepares the Perkins grant budget for submission to the Superintendent for
School Board approval.
โ€ข Collects information, prepares reports and assists with monitoring for SDE
reporting.
โ€ข Performs other related duties as assigned.
Professional Development
โ€ข Lead and support program pilots within assigned grade level bands and;
โ€ข Attend district/local Curriculum Council and Professional Development
Committee meetings.
