Job Summary:

The Healthcare Pathways Recruitment & Navigation Specialist supports student recruitment, advising, and retention across multiple healthcare education programs and partner institutions. This position plays a key role in guiding prospective and current students through "stackable" educational and career pathways, from high school dual-enrollment to college certificates, associate and bachelor's degrees, and beyond. The specialist will coordinate outreach, develop communication materials, connect students with funding and internship opportunities, and provide individualized navigation support to help them successfully enter and progress through healthcare education programs.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach to high schools, community organizations, and tribal communities to promote healthcare education opportunities.
  • Coordinate and participate in college fairs, career days, and community events.
  • Develop print and digital recruitment materials highlighting healthcare career ladders, funding opportunities, and local workforce needs.
  • Collaborate with partner colleges and universities to promote articulation and transfer options.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for students exploring healthcare education programs across multiple institutions.
  • Assist students with admission applications, FAFSA completion, and scholarship searches, including tribal, state, and federal funding opportunities.
  • Connect students to available grants, work-study programs, and local employer-based tuition assistance.
  • Support students in identifying and applying for healthcare internships, clinical placements, and summer research experiences.
  • Track students' academic progress and connect them with campus and community resources for tutoring, mentoring, and wrap-around support.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions between educational levels (e.g., CNA LPN BSN).
  • Serve as liaison between partner institutions (e.g., community colleges, universities, and career centers).
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of program requirements, admission criteria, articulation agreements, and internship opportunities.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and regional workforce partners to identify and promote internship and shadowing placements.
  • Support coordination of pathway advisory councils, internship fairs, and collaborative career events.
  • Maintain accurate recruitment, enrollment, funding, and internship placement data for institutional and grant reporting.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend strategies to strengthen recruitment, retention, and student success outcomes.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required.
  • Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of the position description.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with healthcare program admissions, workforce grants, or career pathway initiatives.
  • Familiarity with tribal colleges, community-based education, and grant-funded programs.
  • Knowledge of healthcare workforce trends, educational progression models, and experiential learning frameworks.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work within Microsoft Office software, and internet-based programs
  • This position may require travel between partner sites (e.g., Bay Mills Community College, Lake Superior State University, and Sault Area High School & Career Center) and occasional evening or weekend outreach events.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree in education, healthcare administration, counseling, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in academic advising, student recruitment, career services, or related student support role.
  • Excellent written communication and organization skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with others, college and departmental committee experience preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience with people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
  • Knowledge or experience in working with Native Americans, in an educational setting preferred.
