What You'll Do:
  • Lead a survey crew to complete control, topographic, boundary, construction layout, and utility location surveys.
  • Operate advanced survey instruments including robotic total stations, automatic levels, data collectors, laser scanners, GPS, and other standard equipment to accurately gather field data.
  • Interpret construction plans, perform necessary field calculations, and execute precise construction layout.
  • Maintain clear, detailed, and accurate field notes.
  • Efficiently upload and download survey data files and photographs.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance and operation of all field survey equipment, vehicles, and supplies.
  • Conduct all work with a strong commitment to safety, adhering to the Health and Safety Plan.
  • Represent DLZ and its core values professionally in all interactions.
  • Mentor and coach junior field crew members, fostering their growth.
  • Effectively manage field work scope and schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring:
  • High School Graduate or equivalent (required); Associate's degree or higher in Surveying & Mapping or Civil Engineering Technology (preferred).
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive experience as a Survey Party Chief.
  • Working knowledge of Trimble survey equipment and Trimble Business Center (preferred).
  • Experience with construction layout and/or utility corridor projects (preferred but not required).
  • Strong ability to perform basic mathematical and trigonometric calculations and understand error propagation in field surveys.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for sound independent decision-making and providing clear direction to crew members.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clients, property owners, and coworkers.
  • Ability to obtain OSHA 30 Hour Construction Safety Certification.
  • Availability for overtime and out-of-town travel with provided per diem.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license along with the ability to pass a background check, an MVR check, and a drug test
