What is a part time solutions engineer?

Part time solutions engineers are professionals who work reduced hours compared to full-time employees and are responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting technical solutions for clients or internal teams. They collaborate closely with sales, development, and customer support teams to understand customer needs and provide the right technical guidance. Their duties often include preparing demos, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring that technology solutions fit the client's requirements. Working part time allows for greater flexibility, making it suitable for those balancing other commitments.

How does a part time solutions engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams?

As a part-time Solutions Engineer, you will frequently collaborate with sales, product, and customer success teams to ensure clients' technical needs are met. You'll often join meetings to provide technical expertise, assist with product demonstrations, and help tailor solutions to specific client requirements. Effective communication and time management are key, as you'll need to stay aligned with full-time team members and project timelines despite a reduced schedule. This collaborative environment not only enhances your technical skills but also broadens your understanding of various business functions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time solutions engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Solutions Engineer, you need a solid understanding of software engineering principles, problem-solving skills, and relevant technical education or experience. Familiarity with CRM systems, cloud platforms, scripting languages, and tools like Salesforce or AWS is often expected, along with an ability to quickly learn client-specific technologies. Strong communication, time management, and the ability to collaborate with both clients and internal teams are crucial soft skills. These competencies ensure effective solution delivery, client satisfaction, and the ability to balance technical demands efficiently within limited working hours.

Job description

Defense Solutions Architect
The Opportunity:
This is a role for a technologist who wants to shape solutions for the nation's most critical national defense challenges: partnering with capture teams on competitive pursuits and supporting high-speed acquisitions where the timeline is compressed and the technical solution has to be right for the mission, delivered fast. You'll translate complex mission needs into credible, differentiated, and executable technical architectures across a portfolio of opportunities rather than from inside a single program of record. With your guidance, we'll help transform the way defense customers use technology including cloud migration, integrating advanced technology, and modernizing legacy systems.
What You'll Do
  • Lead technical solution development and architecture visioning during capture, shaping, and pre-RFP phases.
  • Translate customer mission needs into actionable, technically sound solution concepts and win themes across digital, cyber, autonomy, AI/ML, and infrastructure domains.
  • Produce and refine solution narratives, technical volumes, architecture diagrams, compliance matrices, and supporting artifacts for bids.
  • Evaluate competitor approaches, teaming strategies, and price-to-win considerations to ensure solutions are differentiated and winnable.
  • Surge across pursuits, flexing to the highest-priority opportunities as capture demands shift.
  • Partner closely with Capture Leads, Pricing, and industry and technology partners to shape end-to-end solutions, basis-of-estimate (BOE) inputs, and bills of materials.
  • Bring hands-on depth in one or more focus areas: Networks, Digital Infrastructure, Undersea Autonomy, Artificial Intelligence, DevSecOps, and Software Engineering.
  • Contribute to proposal development, including technical volumes, solution narratives, color-team reviews, and oral presentation preparation.
  • Apply knowledge of defense acquisition pathways, such as Adaptive Acquisition Framework, Commercial Solutions Openings, Middle-Tier Acquisition, Other Transaction Authorities, or SBIR/STTR to align solutions to the right contracting approach.
  • Stay current on defense technology trends and the venture and partner ecosystem, with a focus on injecting COTS capabilities into government proposals, and build reusable solution assets that scale across pursuits and accounts.

Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 8+ years of experience in solution architecture or systems engineering
  • Experience developing technical solutions and architectures in one or more of the following: Undersea Autonomy, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), DevSecOps, Software Engineering, Digital Infrastructure, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Networks, or Enterprise IT
  • Experience supporting defense capture, proposals, or technical solutioning in a government or government-contracting environment
  • Experience authoring technical volumes, solution narratives, or written proposal artifacts
  • Experience supporting DoD or IC clients, including Army, Navy, or Marine Corps missions
  • Knowledge of the defense industry and the U.S. Government acquisition process
  • Ability to collaborate across capture, pricing, partner, and account leadership to deliver integrated solutions under deadline
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or STEM Field or 5+ years of military experience in a technical engineering field in the military in lieu of a degree

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience as a solution architect or technical lead on competitive defense captures
  • Experience architecting solutions across more than one of the focus areas above
  • Knowledge of rapid prototyping and high-speed acquisition environments
  • Knowledge of multi-domain operations and joint warfighting concepts
  • Secret clearance
  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a technical field
  • AWS or Azure Solutions Architect certification and CISSP, Security+ or DoD 8570 IAT or IAM certification

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
