Job description

Title: Utility Locator
Status: Full-time
Hourly Rate: $27.80
This full-time role will typically work 35 hours per week with occasional opportunity for overtime and will be required to participate in on-call for the department.

Description:
This full-time position will help in locating utilities within the City of Fishers, which also includes storm water, sanitary sewer, fiber optic facilities, etc. This position also collects and updates GIS (Geographical Information System) data. A Global Positioning System (GPS) and maps will be provided. Other responsibilities may include responding to utility emergencies while under on-call status, supervising part-time staff; and participating in city snow removal duties as needed.
Examples of Duties:
  • Use electronic equipment to locate utilities in residential and commercial areas
  • Spray or flag utility areas
  • Interpret blueprints and maps
  • Use software to document completion of tasks and update GIS
  • Photograph site to ensure legal and regulatory compliance
  • Drive to various sites daily
  • Work in all weather conditions
  • Communicate with contractors in a professional manner
  • Basic use of hand tools
  • Interact with the public in a professional manner
  • Participate in on-call process for the department
  • Participate in snow plow and snow removal as needed including holidays and weekends

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured to drive a city vehicle which includes 3 year of driving history not including permit time;
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time;
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 lbs;
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a variety of people;
  • Able to handle several projects at the same time;
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions;
  • Must be able to work on-call shifts and shifts for snow removal needs including holidays and weekends;
  • Utility locating experience and education or familiarity with AutoCAD or GIS such as ESRI or ArcView preferred.
