Join Our Team as a Part-Time Peer Specialist!

Are you passionate about supporting Children & Youth Population and making a real difference in their lives? EAC Network, a leading not-for-profit social service agency dedicated to helping over 79,000 people through 100 impactful programs across Long Island and NYC, is looking for a dedicated part time Peer Specialist to join the Alternative for Youth Program.

  • Salary: $18.02 per hour
  • Schedule: up to 17 hours (flexible schedule), with some possible evenings and weekends
  • Location: Central Islip, NY
  • Reports to: Program Director

What drives the core purpose of this job:

The Peer Specialist is responsible for providing peer support to families and assisting the Case Management unit in all aspects of its operations in the Alternatives for Youth (AFY) Program.

What are the key responsibilities:

  • Provide peer support including home visits, telephone reassurance, advocacy and encouragement for clients support to families in crisis struggling with problems such as substance abuse and mental illness.
  • Participate in monthly recreational events or take clients on recreational outings.
  • Assist with facilitating Teen Enrichment adolescent groups.
  • Ensure clients receive required visits per month as per Director.
  • Transport clients/families from appointments or to obtain emergency resources as needed in own vehicle if necessary.
  • Complete written reports and progress notes in a timely manner regarding clients progress.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and required training.
  • Facilitate and develop monthly educational workshops for adolescents as assigned by the Director.
  • Hold weekly female and male adolescent groups as assigned by the Director.

What key knowledge, skills, and abilities are required to excel in this role:

  • High School Diploma or educational equivalent required. Persons in recovery must have a minimum of three years sobriety as per funder requirements.
  • Working knowledge of criminal justice issues, mental illness, substance abuse and/or adolescent behavior preferred.
  • Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, and email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.
  • Must have access to automobile and possess valid New York State driver's license.
  • Must have good communication skills, both oral and written.
