Description:

St. Therese, The Little Flower Catholic Church in Port Arthur seeks a dedicated and faith-filled Music Director to lead and develop the parish music ministry. This position serves an essential role in supporting the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy through music that inspires active participation, enhances worship, and reflects the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church.

The Music Director will collaborate with clergy, parish staff, volunteers, and choir members to provide musical leadership for weekend Masses, holy days, special liturgies, and parish celebrations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and lead music for all assigned liturgical celebrations.
  • Serve as principal music leader for:
    • Saturday Vigil Mass (4:30 p.m.)
    • Sunday Mass (10:30 a.m.)
  • Select music that is liturgically appropriate and consistent with Catholic teachings and diocesan guidelines.
  • Direct and accompany choir rehearsals and foster the growth of parish music ministries.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteer musicians and choir members.
  • Coordinate music for holy days, sacramental celebrations, funerals, weddings, and other special liturgies as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with the Pastor and parish leadership in liturgical planning.
  • Incorporate both traditional and contemporary sacred music when appropriate to enrich the worship experience.
  • Maintain music resources, licenses, and parish music library materials.
  • Ensure that all music ministry activities promote the mission of the parish and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Beaumont.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic preferred with a strong understanding of Catholic liturgy and worship.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in vocal and choral leadership.
  • Ability to direct choirs and work effectively with volunteer musicians.
  • Knowledge of Catholic liturgical music, hymnody, and worship traditions.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous parish music ministry experience preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and parishioners.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during rehearsals and liturgical celebrations.
  • Ability to lift and transport music materials and equipment as needed.

Schedule

This is a part-time position that includes:

  • Saturday Vigil Mass (4:30 p.m.)
  • Sunday Mass (10:30 a.m.)
  • Choir rehearsals
  • Holy Days of Obligation
  • Special liturgies and parish celebrations throughout the year
