The Continuing Education & Workforce Development Department seeks a part-time instructor for our Microsoft Excel 365 Associate and Expert certification programs. We are looking for an engaging, tech-savvy professional to teach adult learners, career changers, entrepreneurs, and job seekers through a blend of in-person sessions and on-demand online modules. Reporting to the Program Director, you will facilitate learning, monitor progress, and prepare students to pass the official Certiport Microsoft Excel 365 Associate (MO-210) and Expert (MO-211) exams.

At the Associate level, the curriculum focuses on managing worksheets, creating cells and ranges, formatting tables, applying basic formulas and functions, and generating charts. Expert-level topics expand into managing advanced workbook options, restricting user access, formatting custom data layouts, and deploying advanced formulas, including logical, financial, and lookups. Additionally, the curriculum guides students through advanced data analysis, which includes managing PivotTables, configuring Pivot Charts, and creating interactive dashboards.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
Provide Excel 365 Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 instruction to students utilizing the established curriculum provided by UCNJ Union College, of Union County, NJ for both the Excel Associate and Excel Expert Certification Programs.
Teach material strictly from the approved curriculum, following predefined course outlines and delivering a clear, comprehensive syllabus focused solely on software functionality and formula syntax.
Conduct lectures and practical training explicitly aligned with navigating the digital workspace and passing the official Microsoft Office Specialist Excel Associate and Expert Exams.
Provide quality, technically relevant instruction, assessment, and feedback in both lecture and laboratory settings, utilizing real-world simulations, hands-on exercise labs, and project workbooks.
Instruct or co-instruct courses for non-credit programs across traditional lecture, hybrid, and fully online formats, with the ability to teach remote live and support asynchronous on-demand modules.
Monitor student performance on targeted pre-and post-assessments, motivate active participation, and provide constructive feedback to ensure course standards and data fluency objectives are met.
Guide students through core and advanced software workflows, moving seamlessly from basic cell formatting to advanced nesting functions, macro utilization, and data modeling.
Maintain meticulous and compliant institutional records, including daily attendance tracking, midterm reporting, and final grade entries.
Assist with ongoing course and program evaluations to ensure the curriculum continuously prepares students for the official online testing windows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a related field or advanced certification from a four-year college or university in the relevant industry/discipline is required.
Official Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Excel 365 Associate and Expert Certifications (or Microsoft Office Specialist: Excel Expert Master designation) preferred.

Requires a minimum of three (3) or more years of formal teaching experience, preferably instructing adult learners in vocational or non-credit continuing education environments.
A minimum of five (5) years of practical, hands-on experience in data analysis, business intelligence, finance, or administrative management roles heavily utilizing advanced spreadsheets.
Advanced, demonstrable technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel 365, specifically including PivotTables, Power Query, dynamic arrays, and complex nested functions.
Proven track record in adult education, workforce development, corporate training, or vocational instruction.
Official Microsoft Office Specialist: Excel Associate (MO-210) AND Excel Expert (MO-211) certifications are highly preferred.
Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to translate complex formula syntax, data modeling logic, and error troubleshooting into clear, actionable lessons.
Deep conceptual understanding that the instructional mandate is strictly focused on software tool functionality, formula syntax, and interface navigation rather than teaching foundational mathematical or statistical theory.
Practical familiarity with managing course shells within Learning Management Systems (specifically Canvas) and coordinating student activities inside simulated digital learning environments (e.g., GMetrix)
Competencies and Skills Required
Skill in delivering complex technical material strictly according to predefined course outlines, institutional syllabi, and mandatory certification topics, focusing explicitly on software functionality over theoretical mathematical or statistical principles.

Strong interpersonal skills to assist leadership with ongoing course evaluations and program improvements.
Mastery of Excel 365 spreadsheet workflows, user interface navigation, advanced formula syntax, data visualization, and the specific advanced analytical skills tested on both the Associate and Expert certification exams.
Ability to teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online classrooms using remote-live tools, virtual hands-on exercise labs, video-based lessons, and learning management systems (LMS).
Skill in evaluating student work via pre- and post-assessments, providing actionable feedback, answering software-related syntax inquiries promptly, and motivating active classroom participation.
Ability to multi-task in a busy academic environment and effectively pace software simulations, exercises, and lectures to ensure full classroom testing readiness within an accelerated curriculum window.
