Description:

Jefferson County Public Health seeks Billing and Coding Specialists for the purpose of credentialling and supporting private mental and or behavioral health practices in Jefferson County. This work experience is offered to a new-to-the-field billing and coding specialists. Preference will be given to recent graduates of Front Range Community College. The preferred candidates should hold a credential in billing and coding services, be eligible for credentialing through examination, or have one year of experience in billing and coding services without credential.

The ideal candidate is eager to engage in independent work with mental and behavioral health practices and receive mentorship from an established billing and coding specialist. Under limited supervision, this position performs Medicaid payor system credentiallingservices and administrative support including working with payor platform to troubleshoot denials, clawbacks or administrative errors for mental and behavioral health practices as assigned. They are also responsible for Medicaid-specific electronic health record (EHR) set up and creation of manuals for mental and behavioral health practitioners specific to their Medicaid related billing and coding needs.

SCHEDULE:

  • Must reside in the state of Colorado at the time of hire. This position typically operates in a hybrid format, following the County's 4-day workweek (Monday-Thursday) with remote and in-person work as needed.
  • This is a temporary and part-time position.
  • Billing and coding specialists will work 5-10 hours per week, 30-60 hours per month for up to 6 months.

COMPENSATION:

Hiring Range: $22.00-25.00 USD Hourly

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

BENEFITS:

This is a temporary, non-benefit position. Employees are able to earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Independently completes the Colorado Community College Systems Billing and Coding Mental Health Badge training.
  • Completes all Jefferson County onboarding trainings in a timely manner.
  • Attends staff meetings as assigned.
  • Engages in mentorship and training duties as assigned.
  • Under limited supervision, the billing and coding specialist will engage with assigned mental health practices to assess their individual needs related to applying to the Medicaid payor system.
  • Independently works with assigned mental health practices to provide administrative support including working with payor platform to troubleshoot denials, clawbacks or administrative errors. Responsible for gathering needed information, monitoring and tracking status and responding to mental health practices and the Medicaid system in a timely manner.
  • Uses billing and coding expertise to set up or optimize assigned mental health practices' electronic health record (EHR) so providers can maintain billing and coding requirements.
  • Creates and provides a manualized set of Medicaid billing and coding instructions specific to each assigned mental health practice.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Completion of billing and coding certificate program, or completion of billing and coding certification by exam, or one (1) year of work-related experience in billing and coding services.
  • Develop and maintain positive, working relations both internally to JCPH and externally with community members and partners.
  • Demonstrate professional demeanor and ability to maintain confidentiality in execution of all responsibilities.
  • Team Player: Effective collaborator, willing to listen and learn from others, wants to work with others.
  • Basic navigation of Microsoft 365; basic navigation of EHR systems.

Preferred Certifications:

  • CCA Certified Coding Associate
  • CPC Certified Professional Coder
  • CBCS Certified Billing and Coder Specialist
  • One of the above exams is scheduled but not yet completed
  • No certification, but over 1 year experience in medical billing and coding or billing management systems

  • Criminal History and MVR Background Checks are required for every position.
  • Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of criminal history, motor vehicle report, education verification, and/or references.
