Job description

University of Colorado Medicine (CU Medicine) is the region's largest and most comprehensive multispecialty physician group practice. At our primary and specialty care clinics across the Denver metro area and Front Range, CU Anschutz School of Medicine physicians and advanced practice providers bring the latest medical knowledge and new advancements to the care they provide every day. CU Medicine also provides business operations, revenue cycle and administrative services to support the patients of CU Anschutz School of Medicine providers.
We are seeking a highly motivated Medical Coding Assistant to join our Coding Services team. This is a great opportunity for individuals with a CPC certification looking to gain hands-on experience in a medical coding environment.
This job can be performed 100% remotely and out of state candidates will be considered.
The Medical Coding Assistant will:
  • Work with medical coders and management to reconcile all electronic professional charges for assigned departments through various schedules and reports.
  • Complete monthly examination of all missing charges reports or other validation of charges as assigned.
  • Review missed charges and work with coding staff and management to resolve billing issues while ensuring all electronic medical record (EMR) charges have been accounted for.
  • Perform basic coding review and basic data entry into the appropriate application(s).
  • Complete other clerical duties as assigned.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of office experience, preferably in a healthcare setting. Completion of an accredited coding certification, i.e. CPC-A is required. Must be proficient with MS Office products and possess high level data entry skills- ensuring accuracy with speed. The ability to learn and develop proficiency in the use of CU Medicine computer applications including EPIC. Familiarity with medical insurance billing, medical terminology as well as ICD-10 and CPT coding preferred. Excellent communication and customer service skills are key characteristics. Must be able to problem solve, effectively prioritize tasks, and follow instruction provided by leadership.
