GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Lab Technician supports the EMT and Paramedic Science programs by preparing laboratory spaces, setting up equipment, assisting students during skills practice, and conducting skills check-offs under faculty supervision. Lab Technicians help create a safe, organized, and student-centered environment that enhances hands-on learning and skill mastery.
Applicants may be hired into one of two tracks, depending on credentials and program need:
1. EMT Lab Technician (EMT required)
2. Paramedic Lab Technician (Paramedic required
CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Program Chair, Department Chair, or Dean
SUPERVISION GIVEN: None
COMPENSATION:$20.00/hr
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (Both Tracks):
• Assist faculty during laboratory sessions by supporting instruction, demonstrating skills as directed, and facilitating supervised student practice.
• Conduct skills check-offs according to established program rubrics and standards.
• Prepare, set up, maintain, and tear down laboratory equipment, supplies, manikins, and simulation materials.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked lab environment; report equipment issues or supply needs.
• Accurately document student participation and skills assessment results.
• Ensure adherence to all lab safety, infection control, and emergency procedures.
• Interact professionally and collegially with students, faculty, and staff in accordance with Ivy Tech policies and expectations.
• Support an inclusive, positive, and student-centered learning environment.
• Perform other responsibilities logically associated with this position as assigned.
TRACK-SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. EMT Lab Technician Track
Minimum Qualifications:
• Holds an Indiana EMT Certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Indiana AEMT or Paramedic certification.
• AHA BLS Instructor certification.
• Experience precepting or assisting with EMS skill development (preferred, not required).
2. Paramedic Lab Technician Track
Minimum Qualifications:
• Holds an Indiana Paramedic License.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Associate degree or higher in Paramedic Science or related field.
• Indiana Department of Homeland Security Primary Instructor certification.
• AHA Instructor certifications in BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS.
• NAEMT Instructor certifications in PHTLS and/or AMLS.
• Experience assisting with EMS or Paramedic skills education (preferred, not required).
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS (Both Tracks):
Must possess working knowledge of EMS equipment, procedures, and technologies appropriate to the level of certification. All activities must be conducted with professionalism, respect for diversity, adherence to FERPA, and compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
