Job Summary:
This role will support design development of Civil Site engineering designs by preparing studies, drawings, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with other civil designers/engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Originate and check Civil Site deliverables of moderate complexity, including drawings and 3-D models for earthwork/site design.
  • Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables.
  • Report design quantities compared to estimated quantities.
  • Work with Civil/Structural supervisors to plan, budget and schedule drawing and 3-D model deliverables within the discipline.
  • Participate in project design/model reviews.
  • Participate in constructability reviews.
  • Review and coordinate technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction.
  • Act as a mentor or coach for subordinate designers and drafters.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • BS degree in a related field with 8-10 years of related design experience or AA/AS degree with 11 years of related design experience. In lieu of a degree, 12-14 years of related design experience.
  • This role requires a facility-specific clearance that requires U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency status.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
Minimum Qualifications
    • Advance experience in the use of AutoCAD and Civil3D.
    • Work experience should emphasize Civil Site design of heavy industrial type facilities.
    • Must be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Familiar with the provisions of AASHTHO, ASTM, ACI, ASTM, FHWA, MUTCD and WBDG UFC codes. Knowledge of construction materials and construction details and techniques.
    • Familiar with the methods of procurement and control of bulk materials.
    • Knowledge of technical responsibilities of other disciplines associated with Facilities Design.
    • Ability to independently execute the detailed design drawings of Civil Site systems of moderate complexity.
    • Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.
    • Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
    • Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
    • Ability to issue clear and concise direction to subordinate designers and drafters.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the sitework, earthwork, roadway, and drainage for Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.
  • AA in civil engineering or engineering technology.
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt or higher or working knowledge of other process improvement programs.
