How much do remote outdoor product design jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 25, 2026, the average yearly pay for remote outdoor product design in the United States is $184,336.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $189,000.00 and $189,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How can I make 2000 a week working from home?

Remote outdoor product designers can increase earnings by taking on multiple freelance projects, developing a strong portfolio, and utilizing online platforms to find clients. Building specialized skills in CAD software, prototyping, and outdoor gear trends can also command higher rates. Consistent networking and marketing your expertise are key to reaching higher weekly income levels.

How does collaborating with cross-functional teams work in a remote outdoor product design role?

In a remote outdoor product design position, collaboration with cross-functional teams—such as engineering, marketing, and supply chain—primarily takes place through digital communication tools like video calls, project management platforms, and shared design files. Clear documentation and regular updates are essential to keep everyone aligned, especially when team members are in different locations or time zones. Successful remote designers proactively schedule check-ins, participate in virtual brainstorming sessions, and use collaborative design software to gather feedback and iterate efficiently. This dynamic fosters both independence and teamwork, ensuring the design process remains seamless despite the physical distance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Outdoor Product Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Outdoor Product Designer, you generally need a background in industrial design or mechanical engineering, combined with strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes for outdoor gear. Familiarity with CAD software (such as SolidWorks or Rhino), prototyping tools, and design collaboration platforms is typically required. Creative problem-solving, clear communication, and self-motivation are vital soft skills for excelling in a remote and collaborative setting. These skills ensure innovative, functional, and user-focused products that meet the unique demands of outdoor environments while supporting efficient remote teamwork.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

Remote outdoor product design roles typically do not pay $4,000 a week without relevant experience or specialized skills. High-paying freelance or contract positions in design, engineering, or consulting may reach that level, especially for those with a strong portfolio and industry expertise, but they often require significant experience and a proven track record. Most jobs in this field prioritize skills and experience over formal degrees for high compensation.

How much do outdoor product designers make?

Outdoor product designers typically earn between $50,000 and $85,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and company size. Senior designers or those with specialized skills in CAD software and sustainable materials can earn higher salaries, often exceeding $100,000. Compensation may also include benefits such as health insurance and bonuses.

What is a Remote Outdoor Product Designer?

A Remote Outdoor Product Designer is a professional who creates and develops products for outdoor use, such as camping gear, backpacks, or outdoor apparel, while working from a location outside a traditional office, often from home or another remote location. They use digital design tools, collaborate with teams online, and consider factors like durability, weather resistance, and user experience in their designs. This role typically involves prototyping, testing, and refining products to meet the needs of outdoor enthusiasts. Remote work allows these designers to connect with companies and clients globally, offering flexibility and diverse project opportunities.

What is the difference between Remote Outdoor Product Design vs Remote Outdoor Equipment Specialist?

AspectRemote Outdoor Product DesignRemote Outdoor Equipment Specialist
CredentialsDesign degree, CAD skills, industry certificationsProduct knowledge, technical certifications, outdoor industry experience
Work EnvironmentDesign studios, remote collaboration toolsCustomer support, technical consultation, remote or field work
Industry UsageDesign firms, outdoor brands, manufacturing companiesRetailers, outdoor gear companies, service providers

Remote Outdoor Product Designers focus on creating and developing outdoor gear and equipment through design and technical skills, often working remotely with teams. In contrast, Remote Outdoor Equipment Specialists provide technical support, product knowledge, and customer assistance, typically in a more service-oriented role. Both roles require outdoor industry familiarity but differ in their core functions and work environments.

Is AI replacing product designers?

AI is transforming product design by automating repetitive tasks and providing data-driven insights, but it does not replace the need for human creativity, problem-solving, and user-centered thinking that product designers bring. Designers who adapt by integrating AI tools and developing skills in user experience and prototyping remain essential in the design process.

Job description

Xplor Technologies powers the experiences at the heart of everyday life. Through modern vertical software, embedded payments, and AI-powered capabilities, we help businesses in fitness, recreation, golf and club, field services, laundry, education, and other membership-based and service-based industries simplify operations, uncover insights, and elevate customer and member experiences.
We unite popular brands such as Clubessential, foreUP, myFitApp, Vermont Systems, Momence, Exerp, and many more.
Join our Recreation Vertical as a Manager, Product Design to make a real impact every day. We say that because we know that every conversation we have, every interface we design, and every new feature we ship is another opportunity for us to elevate everyday life experiences for our customers and the people and communities they serve.
Xplor Recreation is building a centralized Vertical Design Team to scale design resources, unify standards, and improve outcomes across our portfolio of brands. The Manager, Product Design is a key contributor to that initiative.
This is a people manager role with an active design workload. You will formally manage a small team of product designers as direct reports, own the design output for nextRec, and help establish craft, process, and AI-assisted execution across the Recreation Design Team. You will report directly to the VP of Product and serve as the design voice in day-to-day cross-functional collaboration with Product Management and Engineering.
This role is well-suited for an experienced designer stepping into or growing within a formal management track - someone who is equally energized by hands-on craft and by developing their team, not just executing tickets.
Some of the things you'll do:
Design Execution (~50%)
  • Own end-to-end UX/UI design for nextRec: discovery, wireframing, prototyping, and delivery-ready specs.
  • Partner with Product Managers and Engineering leads to translate roadmap priorities into high-quality design output on defined timelines.
  • Maintain design velocity and quality commitments.
  • Contribute to design system standards and component libraries in collaboration with the broader Recreation Design Team with a stated goal of moving towards consistency across brands and platforms.
  • Leverage AI tools as a standard part of your design workflow and help direct reports adopt similar practices.

People Management & Team Development (~50%)
  • Formally manage a small team of product designers as direct reports - responsible for day-to-day direction, workload allocation, performance, and professional development.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and development conversations, maintaining schedules and workflow across the team and monitoring progress at frequent intervals.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide structured, actionable feedback that elevates team output and builds individual capability.
  • Model and codify AI-augmented design practices, helping direct reports and teammates build fluency and confidence with AI tools in their work.
  • Participate in cross-functional forums including sprint planning and roadmap reviews - communicating design rationale clearly to Product and Engineering peers.
  • Lead hiring and onboarding for the Recreation Design Team, contributing to candidate evaluation and team culture.
  • Celebrate team and individual successes, create time for recognition, and foster an environment where all designers have equal opportunity to contribute and grow.

Process & Standards
  • Establish and evolve design processes for the Recreation Design Team - lightweight where possible, rigorous where it matters.
  • Own design QA for your team's output, ensuring that what ships matches what was designed.
  • Maintain design documentation and handoff standards that reduce back-and-forth with engineering.
  • Participate in retrospectives and team reviews, contributing feedback on process improvements and team workflows.

Working arrangements:
Fully Remote in the United States. You can work fully remote in this position, provided you have eligible working rights in the USA and do not require sponsorship.
Qualifications
What would make me a good candidate?
We are looking for curious and empathetic people. We also love to hear from people who are motivated by meaningful work, resonate with our core values, have a positive outlook, are comfortable with ambiguity and thrive working in an ever-evolving and complex environment. We are inspired by meeting big-picture thinkers and doers, people who can be both tactical and strategic, aim high and put people first in everything they do.
You'll need:
  • 5+ years of product design experience or equivalent, including experience in a lead, senior, or supervisory design role - formal people management experience is a plus but not required for strong candidates.
  • Proven ability to maintain high-quality individual design output while providing direction and feedback to others - a genuine player-coach mindset.
  • Comfortable conducting design reviews, providing actionable feedback, and helping less experienced designers grow their skills.
  • Strong portfolio showing end-to-end UX/UI design: research, wireframes, high-fidelity UI, and shipped product.
  • Experience working directly with Product Management and Engineering in an Agile or sprint-based environment.
  • Able to communicate and explain design rationale clearly to Product and Engineering peers in cross-functional settings.
  • Proficiency in Figma (or equivalent) and comfort with design system methodologies.

It would be great if you also have:
  • SaaS product design experience, particularly with B2B or vertical SaaS products serving SMB or enterprise customers.
  • Practical, hands-on experience using AI tools in a design workflow - not theoretical familiarity, but actual usage in planning and execution.
  • Experience contributing to or building a design system from partial foundations.
  • Exposure to recreation, fitness, education, or similar vertical SaaS markets.
  • Experience working in a distributed or multi-brand organization

At Xplor, we believe that the best innovation and ideas happen at the intersections of our differences - people of diverse cultures, generations, disciplines, and lived experiences. So even if you think you do not tick all the boxes, we still encourage you to apply.
Values and Life at Xplor
Our five core values guide us from how we hire and recognize our team members to how we interact with our customers day to day:
  • Find a better way
  • Do the right thing
  • Say it straight
  • Win together
  • Own the outcome

If these values sound like you and describe people you want to work with, you will thrive at Xplor.
As an Xplorer, you will be part of a global network of talented colleagues who will support your success. We look for commonalities and shared passions and give people the tools they need to deliver great work and grow at speed.
