Job description

This role focuses on field-based work: performing environmental inspections, observing construction progress, and ensuring compliance. We are seeking an Environmental monitor to conduct required inspections on active utility and construction sites across the state of New York. This individual should be experienced in a variety of projects and with focus on ensuring compliance with applicable erosion and sediment control, ultimately resulting in a successfully constructed project. The position would be attached to our Permitting & Compliance Department.

Duties:

Perform part-time environmental and agricultural monitoring for electric transmission line or renewable energy related construction projects permitted under New York State Public Service Law Article VII, AVIII or 94-c.
Ensure construction activities comply with Environmental Management and Construction Plans (EM&CP).
Conduct daily field inspections of active construction areas including but not limited to access roads, structure sites, laydown yards, and restoration areas.
Monitor and document compliance related to wetlands and waterbodies, erosion and sediment controls, protected and sensitive resources, agricultural lands and farm operations.
Monitor work within or adjacent to regulated wetlands, streams, and other jurisdictional resources.
Serve as the primary on-site representative responsible for identifying non-compliance and directing corrective actions.
Coordinate directly with construction supervisors, contractors, and project managers to resolve environmental and agricultural compliance issues in real time.
Verify proper installation, maintenance, and removal of erosion and sediment control measures in accordance with NYS standards and project-specific plans.
Conduct agricultural monitoring in coordination with landowners and farm operators.
Preparing detailed technical environmental reports and maintaining related on-site documents.
Maintain organized field notes and daily logs using company templates, ensuring records are consistent and complete.
This position is ideal for someone with hands-on construction, inspection, or site work experience who enjoys working outdoors, understands how site work comes together, and takes pride in accurate, organized reporting.

Requirements

Minimum BA or BS in Environmental, Ecology, or Biology.

2 to 5 years of experience in delineation, permitting, monitoring, and/or construction oversight

Familiarity with NYSDEC stormwater regulations

Familiarity with New York Department of agriculture and markets guidelines for energy projects.

Comfort working outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions on uneven terrain.

Ability to complete high quality technical reports

Some travel within New York is required.

Fast paced environmental consulting/engineering practice.

Salary Range: $23.00 - 25.00 per hour
