Role Description

Arcadis is seeking a part-time as needed (PTAN) Environmental Scientist to join our Resilience Environment team in Soda Springs, Idaho. This position will support our ongoing fieldwork across the active and inactive mines and mining clients we support in Southeastern Idaho. 

In this role, you will support environmental monitoring and related activities at both active and inactive mines in the area. This work is anticipated to include but not limited to groundwater and surface water sampling, surface water flow measurements, documenting field conditions, biological sampling, soil and sediment sampling, and sample preparation and shipment for laboratory analysis. Additional work opportunities may include collaborating with technical project teams and managers, managing field equipment and supplies, preparing written technical summaries, and contractor oversight. All work, both in the office and the field, will be performed as part of a team of scientists, engineers, and other specialists. 

This position is planned to be on a part-time/seasonal basis. Anticipated hours will be variable (0 to 40 hours/week) depending on week and tasks that are assigned.  

Role accountabilities:

  • Implement and actively participate in a safety-focused field program. 
  • Perform fieldwork as part of a field team which may include environmental sampling, hydrologic analysis, field data collection and recording of observations.
  • Assist with sample preparation and sample shipment to various laboratories.
  • Communicate and work closely with project teams and clients. All work will be performed as part of a team and with other technical staff and specialists. 
  • Assist with writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda.
  • Office work may include task coordination, data compilation and interpretation, health & safety plan preparation, report writing, regulatory file review, and scheduling.
  • Conduct project-related research (historical data, regulations, etc.)

In this role, you will support a variety of environmental field and project activities, including preparing periodic project status and program reports, analyzing and interpreting field data, and documenting key findings and recommendations. You will also provide oversight of subcontractors to ensure compliance with project requirements, including monitoring health and safety program implementation, maintaining proper documentation, and verifying that work is performed in accordance with established standards and procedures. The position includes hands-on field experience and ongoing professional development, with on-the-job training and required health and safety certifications provided as part of the role.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field
  • 0- 2 year's work experience

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Masters in Geology, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related field
  • MSHA 24 hr Surface Miner
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40 hr
