Who We Are: The Outreach Team is the national engine of campaigners and organizers powering the progressive movement. With an on-the-ground presence in communities all across the country, our world-class team runs successful civic engagement campaigns to build a future that's fairer, healthier, safer, and more peaceful for everyone.
Position Overview
The Outreach Team is seeking a skilled Legal Associate to join our team. This is a flexible, hourly position ideal for a paralegal-level professional who can provide legal support services including contract drafting, contract review, and legal research. The Legal Associate will work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating with team members to ensure smooth operations and legal compliance.
We are seeking candidates that can work part-time on an as-needed, hourly basis with flexible scheduling.
Key Responsibilities
  • Contract Drafting: Prepare and draft various types of contracts, agreements, and legal documents based on provided templates and guidelines
  • Contract Review: Review incoming contracts from third parties, identify key terms and potential issues, and propose specific language changes or amendments
  • Legal Research: Conduct straightforward legal research on relevant topics and statutes regulations.
  • Document Management: Organize, maintain, and track legal documents and contracts in an orderly system
  • Administrative Support: Provide general legal administrative support to the team, including correspondence, filing, and documentation
  • Collaboration: Communicate effectively with team members regarding contract status, findings, and recommendations

Important Note: This role involves legal support functions only. The Legal Associate will not provide legal advice, legal opinions, or represent the organization in legal matters. Complex legal questions will be escalated to licensed attorneys.
Qualifications
Required
  • Paralegal certificate, associate degree in paralegal studies, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a legal support role (paralegal, legal assistant, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of contract principles and legal terminology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Compensation & Structure
Salary, Benefits and Perks:
The pay for this position is $38 to $44 per hour. Pay within this range is determined through an equity calculator. As part of The Outreach Team's commitment to compensation equity and transparency, we have a no-negotiation policy. Salary negotiations can introduce bias and perpetuate wage inequality. We do offer a monthly cell phone stipend of $50.
