Position Summary

Guilford College is seeking a Director of the College Choir for the 2026-27 Academic year, with employment beginning in August for the Fall 2026 semester. This appointment is a part-time instructor position. The director will have a firm foundation in classical training as well as experience with a diversity of repertoire in the field of choral music. The director will organize and lead the College Choir which rehearses twice weekly and performs a concert at the end of both the Fall and Spring semesters, as well as at the spring commencement ceremony. The ensemble traditionally includes both college music majors and non-majors, as well as high school students from the Early College at Guilford. The ideal candidate will have experience working with vocalists of a range of ages and abilities. The director will also take an active role in working with the student Choir Officers in recruiting choir members from the campus community. We seek a dynamic and vibrant artist to lead our diverse group of musicians and continue the long tradition of the Guilford College Choir.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct the Guilford College Choir (75 minute rehearsals, twice weekly)
  • Participate in choir recruitment efforts as appropriate for a part-time position.
  • Produce a fall concert in collaboration with the other music department ensembles (usually first Sunday evening in December)*
  • Produce a spring concert (usually first weekend in April.)*

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master's degree in music preferred with an emphasis in choral conducting or voice, or significant professional experience.
  • Teaching experience at the collegiate level
  • Experience with a diversity of choral repertoire
