Job description

We are currently seeking a Concert Assistant amp; Driver, who will provide driving services and assistance with other backstage services, for guest artists and guest conductors of The Cleveland Orchestra performances.
The Concert Assistant amp; Driver work is dependent on the Orchestra schedule. In weeks when the Orchestra is not performing, you will work anywhere from 0-15 hours per week (the Orchestra is not performing in Cleveland approximately 14 weeks per year). When the Orchestra is performing, you will work between 15-40 hours per week. A scheduled Concert Assistant amp; Driver may have gaps in assignments on a scheduled workday. There is a guaranteed 2-hour minimum for assignments.
Position responsibilities include the following:
CONCERT ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Fulfill the role of a rehearsal and concert assistant during Cleveland Orchestra rehearsals to ensure that guest artists and guest conductors are familiar with the backstage area and are onstage as required.
  • Ensure that guest conductor and guest artist dressing rooms are cleaned and ready prior to artist arrival, including but not limited to creating and posting dressing room signs, replenishing towels and refreshments, and calling Hall Staff for cleaning of dressing rooms.
  • Relay guest conductor and guest artist needs to the Artistic Department as necessary. Fulfill allowable requests as appropriate (lunch orders, etc.). Anticipate upcoming guest conductor and artist needs and prepare in advance, as needed.
  • Serve as the first line of contact between house managers and guest conductors and guest artists, fielding patron requests to greet artists, as necessary.
  • Complete and submit expense reports and supporting receipts on a timely basis to the Manager, Artist Services for review.
DRIVER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Drive guest conductors, guest artists, and special guests to concerts, rehearsals, appointments, dinners, to and from the airport, etc., ensuring both safety and timeliness.
  • Maintain and facilitate an open line of communication with the Artistic Operations staff, guest conductors and guest artists to accommodate and communicate any schedule changes related to driving needs.
The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
  • HS Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of limo experience
  • Outstanding concierge service skills with guests
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Superior organizational skills, attention to detail
  • Demonstrated independent, responsible judgment
  • Ability to consistently maintain a professional image and calm demeanor
  • Must have and maintain a driving record acceptable to The Cleveland Orchestra and excellent defensive driving skills
  • Above average knowledge of efficient driving routes in greater Cleveland area
  • Must be able to travel between locations (Severance and Blossom Music Centers, Cleveland Airport) and other areas as required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and some holidays
