Job description

Location: Rochester, NY
Title: Senior Public Safety Radio Technician, prov. - Communications
Deadline: May 28, 2026 5:00pm
Salary: $56,714 - $75,512 annually
Agency/Dept.: Public Safety
Description of Duties
This is a technical position responsible for the proper function of radio equipment for the Department of Public Safety Communications. General supervision is exercised over Public Safety Radio Technicians in the repair and maintenance of radio equipment. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of, a higher level staff member. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
  1. Three (3) years full-time or its part-time equivalent paid or volunteer** experience in the maintenance and repair of two-way radio equipment;, OR
  2. Three (3) years full-time or its part-time equivalent paid or volunteer** experience in the operation, installation, or maintenance/repair of a computer network server or network operating system; OR,
  3. Successful completion of a recognized course in two-way radio or computer operations and repair, such as training courses offered by the military, computer hardware vendors or consultants or any other verifiable training course providing "hands on" computer operation or two-way radio maintenance experience, plus eighteen (18) months experience, as described in (A) or (B) above.

**Volunteer experience must be documented by the participating agency and signed by the appointing authority. Employment dates, average number of hours worked per week, and job duties must be included. Documentation must be included with your application.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Possession of a valid New York State Class *B* commercial driver's license (CDL) with no Air Brake restriction* (must submit copy of license at the time of application).
*L2 on driver's license designates there is an Air Brake restriction.
